Soul Survivor (1994) – Michael Jacklin (1956)

Large Version

I continue my photo-stroll along the sculptures of ARTZUID 2017.

The main post of today is again a compilation of 4 close up pictures.

This time four impressions of the same sculpture “SOUL SURVIVOR” of the Dutch sculptor with a English name: Michael Jacklin.

Not the surface of the artwork, but the different perception depending how close you look at this special play of lines, is the theme of the compilation.

As you probably expect you can find a total view of the sculpture in the WORKSHOP

Michael Jacklin is one of the rare fundamental working sculptors of his generation. He focuses on the specific qualities of the material as well as on the sculptural principles such as mass, rhythm and gravity. Since 1984 he works exclusively with iron. His preference for this material derives from his fascination for iron constructions in architecture. He is known for his series of man-sized grid sculptures and transparant wall objects of thin staff iron.

Michael Jacklin, born in 1956 (NL), studied at the Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam and Ateliers 63 in Haarlem. He started exhibiting at Fons Welters Gallery in 1985. In 1990 he received the Charlotte van Pallandt Award. Since 1995 he exhibits at Slewe Gallery on a regular base. In 2010 Slewe published a catalogue with an overview of his work with a text by Maarten Bertheux. In 2002 he had a presentation at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and in 2000 at the Kunstvereniging Diepenheim. His works have been collected by several important public and private collections. Jacklin lives and works in Amsterdam. (www.slewe.nl/artists/michaeljacklin)

Hello Rob,
Well constructed collage featuring this unusual artwork. I like the lights and the repeating motifs.

Hello Rob,

This is an innovative art work, nicely presented with good sharpness and color, I very much appreciate your framing and color.

warm regards,

Hello Rob,

This looks like a prickly subject from your mixed views!
The w/s shows a nicely composed shot, placed on a diagonal across the frame, with a shape like a rocket. I must admit, from your main post, the details are sharp but the sculpture seems to take on a completely different character.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Bonjour, cher Rob,

Goed foto werk, bedankt.

Bonjour Rob,

Hello Rob,

you present here an original work, I like this collage of lines, the visual effect is interesting, I like it,

Best regards,

Yet another surprising and intriguing composition of the 4 pictures combined, Rob, and the WS that explains it all.
Immaculate photojob done, view the labyrinth iron-wrought modern statue.
Good evening,

Lep pogled, interesantan i dobar tekst ...
Dobar rad sa lepom fotografijom u radionici, lepo pokazana gvozdena skulptura, dobar kontrast, lepe boje.
Interesantna i lepa skulptura.
Sve najbolje u novoj nedelji koja je pocela, srecno.

Nice view, interesting and good text ...
Good work with beautiful photography workshop, beautifully demonstrated iron sculpture, good contrast, nice colors.
An interesting and beautiful sculpture.
All the best in the new week that began, good luck.

Hallo Rob,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi Rob,

The artwork is impressive. The point of view is showing the details of the artwork, three different way. Well done, have a nice day.

A strange sculpture, but very attractive, to me a bit threatening, this impression is caused by angular shapes and sharp edges.
Very nice collage

Hi Rob,it's very incredible your class to transform a sculpture in a very different things watching your puzzle of the main post. The sculpture seems a prison window before to watch the WS. And i'm surprised to see how is small the sculpture....your collage makes me think to a very big one...great post and interesting note about this artist. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Ciao Rob, lovely composition with beautiful graphic, fine details and excellent clarity, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hello Rob,this is a great compilation of shots; I actually like it better than the sculpture itself!
It is a very clever piece.
Love the colours and the wonderful criss crossing of lines.
Your notes are always so informative.
Regards Jean.

Hi Rob
Very busy abstract feel to them but nicely arranged together with shallow dof and appear stronger thus more appealing. Great work yet again, Congrats
Best wishes
