Canal houses offer a perfect vantage point to view the bustling canal area, where bicyclists, boats and tourists zip past. Many of Amsterdam’s canal houses were built during the height of the Dutch Golden Age, serving as home and workplace, and were distinguished by the striking gables and dual entrances.

There were generally attic and basement spaces to store goods such as cotton or cocoa, and hooks were affixed to the top of the long narrow houses to hoist furniture and goods up and through the windows.

Hello daniel,
If you take a look at my Netherland's pictures, you will see the same houses from a slightly diff. POV - dated back to 2006.
a bit changed since, but remain the same style and outlines.
Beautiful architecture's, houses built upon the canal and slightly tilted.
Best regards,

Hello Daniel,

You are right, the canal houses look splendid, tightly packed and eclectic.
They offer such a good image to be represented as a reflection, shimmering almost to the front of the frame.
The converging lines help to give a good sense of perspective.

The last time that I was in Amsterdam, I saw one of those high level hooks being used to move furniture!

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Daniel,

Une bonne idée que ce cadrage vertical qui fait origina pour ce genre de photos. Le canal est beau et donne de la profondeur, les maisons étroites et hautes sont magnifiques et que dire des reflets.

Hello Daniel,

I might have cropped some of the sky to get a 1/2 to 2/3 ratio but this is fine as is. Wonderful reflections in the canal with excellent sharpness. Tfs!

Hello Daniel

Nice one from A'dam. Typical houses and canal scene, well captured. I like the high format too.

Hi Daniel,

I like the reflections on the water. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings. The good luminosity is enhancing the beauty of the colours. Have a nice day.

Ciao Daniel
è impossibile passare da Amsterdam senza fotografare i suoi canali e le sue facciate.
Molto belle quelle che ci proponi, tutte diverse e tutte eleganti.

Hi Daniel
classic to a tea, its perfect. This is what most photographers look for when they come to Amsterdam, or at least I would think...haha...i've never been here.

interesting note to go along with the photo aswell.
if you really examine the buildings, some are skinnier, some are wider, and there are various types of windows. looks great. cheers

Hi Daniel,
very iconic scene indeed! I like it very much! In spite of not having much direct sunlight here, the effect is very clear, colorful and so vivid! I like the array of the characteristic townhouses which is also enhanced with their reflection.
Very impressive!!
