As a farewell to Macedonia, today many pictures - two quite different collages and one more Workshop photo - from Matka Canyon.
In the main picture the Vrelo Cave. The illumination in the upper photo is rather kitschy but I think that colours in the middle one are natural and the forms are interesting - I haven't seen similar stalactites.

Matka Canyon is well worth visiting - you can go along the gorge, visit cave, have a ride by boat and also ss the stands with souvenirs and old books.

Matka canyon is one of the most popular outdoor destinations in Macedonia and is home to several medieval monasteries. The Matka Lake within the Matka Canyon is the oldest artificial lake in the country.

Located on the right bank of the Treska River, Vrelo Cave was listed as one of the top 77 natural sites in the world in the New7Wonders of Nature project.

Vrelo Cave has many stalactites including a large one in the middle of the cave known as the "Pine Cone" due to its shape. There are two lakes at the end of the cave. The smaller lake is 8 meters at its longest length and 15 metres in depth at its deepest point. The larger lake is 35 metres long and 18 metres at its deepest point.

Though the exact depth of the cave is unknown, some speculate that it could be the deepest underwater cave in the world.

The canyon is also home to 77 indigenous species of butterfly. The canyon is also home to the most venomous snake in south Europe the Viper. The canyon's caves are home to large populations of bats.

Maybe Gert will be interested in what books are sold there.

Cruise in the Canyon.

Philippe

Hello Malgo,
Nature as a creator of abstract art. Fantastic colours and shapes, but I wonder if some of these colours are created by the lamps, or are they really natural? Whatever the explanation they make great photos. A nice view also of the boat on the lake. As for the books they should be quite cheap now. I mean, does anyone actually read old Joe these days? I saw books by old Enver dumped in the second hand stores in Tirana.
Don't be late for the flight!
Kind regards,
Gert

Masterfully collected the illluminated different corners inside the cave, Malgo. Each different rock had its own particular color upon.
The canyon seen from the entrance also deserves a main photo to be posted, IMHO.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hello Malgo,

I think expeditions into caves are both interesting and exciting!
The beauty of Nature is irrefutable but you can never say who, or what, has visited and used the cave before you! It is mysterious!
The boat on the river is a lovely added detail.

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Ciao Malgo. The colorful lights are very kitch and i seen something like that in the cuban Cuevas de Bellamar. But the show of this underground adventure is always a great experience where we can do an unique experience. My best compliments for the quality of the pic,not easy a good result like that in these difficult lights. I'm happy to see your hentusiastic comments about my pics from the concentration camps...ahahah...and i like that, better to be honest that hypocrates! Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Malgo, three very interesting pictures from the cave. Quite unusual formations; the shapes in the middle picture are so rounded, not with the usual elongation of stalagtites and stalagmites.
The additional picture of the cruise boat is a nice extra.
Interesting information.
Regards Jean.

Ciao Malgo,

Un magnifique diptyque bien réalisé même si les choses sont sous terre mais avec des couleurs hors de l'ordinaire et des formes très abstraites.

Amicalement

Serge

Hello Malgo,.

I saw this cave before they installed the coloured lights. You can see my photo of the 'pine cone' in my gallery. Interesting colours, tones and patterns in the other 2 shots. Tfs!

Hello Malgo,
A fascinating series of photographs that show different aspects of Matka. Three totally different perspectives. Special colours in the cave, beautiful scenery and nostalgic books about the Tito's Yugoslavia.
A nice farewell to this region.
Excellent work.
Have a good week, groet Rob
