This is from the Old town of Riga, capital of Latvia. I spent a day there on my way home from Georgia some time ago.
I thought this was a fairly nice view, and I was not the first one to enjoy it. I realized that when, to my great surprise, I found that fellow TE member boa had earlier posted an almost identical picture from the same place. I think I had stepped maybe one meter forward and one meter to the left from where he was standing.

Hi, Gert, my neighbour today,
Did you came by plane to Riga from Georgia? Thanks for this post, I'd like to visit Riga and Tallinn sometime too. Very nice view of the narrow cozy colourful streets of the old Europa. But somebody said, that the blocks of Riga are not so interesting for visit.
Have a good WE!
Serghei

The specific elegance and charm of the old town buildings have been retained. This is done even while expressing the colourfullness of the 'new economic order'. The turn of the street gives us an intellegent play of light and shadow. The dark grey dome high on the background - with the scaffoldings for repair - are significant and balances the composition. The lady in the foreground is taking a photograph, I suppose. This makes the whole picture dramatic.
Thanks for sharing.

Bonjour Gert

J'aime beaucoup ce cadrage vertical qui attire le regard dans la galerie. Les couleurs sont exceptionnelles męme dans les bas niveaux ou il devrait normalement y avoir de l'ombre.

Amicalement

Serge

Beautiful shot of a hidden gem of a city, Gert. I spent a day ni Riga last year, and was pleasantly surprised by its size and charm. The old town is wonderful, as you've captured here - tiny winding streets that appear as if out of a fairly tale, gorgeous preserved or reconstructed churches and public buildings, and pleasant restaurants and cafes.

I like the multi-layered way you've captured it here, with buildings rising up over buildings until we get to the large cathedral (which you can go to the top of, by the way, for a bird's eye view - maybe I'll post a shot from there some day). Wonderfully brightly colored buildings here, and the inclusion of another woman taking a shot from the same locale underscores your story about seeing a similar photo here, as well as adding a nice human element to the front of the frame. Well seen and captured!

Andrew

Hej hej Gert,
It is a small world - and through TE it can get even familiar - almost everywhere. I had a similar experience here when I discovered a 20 year old shot in a post of a waterfall near Mapleton, Queensland taken from a almost identical POV along a walking trail by Chris Jules (ChrisJ) in the same year and month.
Anyway - nice to see how places develop or remain the same. Did you ever make use of the button 'I've traveled here'?

HAve a great WE.

Thomas

Hello Gert. A remarkable photo of Riga. Everything here is architecturally interesting. The city has developed fantastically after independence. Unfortunately, I had little time for a detailed city tour. Your photo in the upright format like that very much. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Hello Gert,
I love how you have laid out your composition in the vertical frame so that we have a very intersting, comprehensive and comfortable view of this lovely, picturesque part of the city. The sides of the narrow road provide great perspective and additional framing that draw us irresistibly towards the centre of the frame, intriguing from top to bottom. The many colours and textures, the architectural details and atmosphere have been captured with superb clarity. The diversity of lighting has been controlled very effectively and the picture is very appealing. Well done and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,
Ourania

Hello Gert,
I really love your vertical composition, I like the way you caught this beautiful place, the light and the colors are really attractive, and the quality is excellent.
Congratulations and TFS.
Best regards
Giorgio

Hi Gert,

Gert,
I like the wonderful array of colours, largely in the warmer tones. Nicely captured to move the viewer from the bottom to the top.

Hello Gert,

You're capturing well this alley by a good angle and excellent tone, so it's intersting and impressive to see the old alley and buildings with the atmosphere of medieval times. It's impressive in tall architecture as cathedral in behind. And, some people in alley draw out a good effect.
Have a nice weekend.

Kind regards,
mikio

Hello dear Gert,
Very nice capture from old town of Riga.
Perfect pov. Specially the orange fassade at right creates a perfect contrast with the blue of the sky.
Many hidden beautiful details in the scenery.
TFS and best regards and have a nice weekend

Hej Gert,
it is interesting to see same view but during more pleasant temperatures. Not much have changed since i was here. Scaffolding around the church and different shops perhaps is the only things i can see that have changed.
My shot was a little overexposed with burned out highlights but you have handled the light much better. I like the warm saturated colors here and it was good for the overall impression to include the woman to the right in the picture. Well done!
Ha det bra.

Hello Gert! Very beautiful photo, excellent subject, wonderful, peaceful place! great composition and framing, great perspective! Excellent light management, wonderful colours and Very impressive photo, perfect in any aspect! Excellent perspective, fantastic "lead in" line of FG and characteristic of architecture details!!

Warm regards,
Georgios

Hi Gert
Your compo is enjoyable and it's obvious why this spot is popular for photographers. Tthe slight curve of the road that invites the eye in combined with the architecture and soft pastel colours are a delight and you have taken full advantage of the situation so well. A place full of peculiar charm. Very good image quality, Well done.
Warm regards

Hej Gert,
A very pleasant street view and much nicer conditions than the other photo here. Very attractive colours.

Hej Gert,
A very enjoyable take on Riga this is. I like the bright local colours but the way you played with perspective, sending the eye on an angular journey through the narrow streets is great. The position of te blond woman and the direction she's facing strengthens this effect.
Regards from Rotterdam,
Bert

Boa noite Gert

The point of view is fantastic. Spectacular capture of this street and the beautiful architecture.

Hi Gert,
Old Town in Riga is nice. Good composition. Beautiful old narrow street with the colourful facades of houses. Well presentation.
Have a nice Sunday.

Hi Gert,
Lovely image, full of great atmosphere. Great elegant architecture and in very good condition.

I like your composition with the lady on the right helping with the proportions and balance. And the omnipresent scaffolding! Just about all intersting buildings have some of that! I wish would had moved jus a step on the right so that the clock was full in sight but that is just neat nitpicking!

Thanks for sharing

Hi Gert,
charming street view. I think I recognize the tower, you had a bad luck to see it with the construction but because it is partially hidden the construction does not disturb too much. I like how colorful are the houses. Latvia is another of the countries so underrepresented here on TE so I am glad to see that.
Kind regards,
M

Hello Gert
I remember having commented on Boa's picture...I presume which was taken in the winter months. Nice colourful pastel facades of the houses...the one in bright orange especially eye catching! Its interesting to note that a few things have changed between the two pictures (yours & boa's) amongst which the signages & maybe the colour of the house...
Best Regards

Hello Gert

Superb colors with perfect amount of saturation. Also very good tones and contrasts.Very interesting atmosphere.Nice job!

Best Regards

Hi Gert

Such lovely characteristic architecture. The colours are beautiful and the tight framing was superbly judged. These little alleys are the reason why we all travel to Europe and you have captured that sense of atmosphere and history beautifully.

Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day

Hi Gert,
Excellently captured buildings from very well selected low-angle viewpoint. The view from lover angle makes the buildings majestic and dominant. Excellent deep DOF and great vivid colors. Well done.

Hello Gert,
Good picture of Riga, never there and it is interesting for me to have a general view of a street of this capital
Very well selected pov, I can see an hipopotamus on the shop board, excellent light, pov, clear shot
