[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is an archival photo from one of my first trips after I switched from an analog to digital camera.

As much as I complain about the Irish weather now, when I lived in Northern Germany I was pretty much unhappy as well. Maybe because I moved there from California :-) Island Helgoland was not a short trip for me so I waited forever for a perfect weather to do it. I was lucky as you see. Boats depart from Hamburg Port or Cuxhaven. If you want to do it in one day you will have just 4 hours on the island. 2 hours is actually enough to walk around the island but if you like taking pictures 4 hours is not enough. If you like photographing birds you definitely need more. I deeply regret that I did not stay there over the weekend. It was worth it. Wonderful coast in amazing red color, great views, unique lighthouse, tiny colourful houses, small village with plenty of cafes and charming atmosphere.

This particular view point to the characteristic rock Lange Anna which in German means simply Long Anna you can enjoy at the end of the island opposite to landing piers.

Heligoland (German: Helgoland; Heligolandic: deät Lun ["the Land"]) is a small German archipelago in the North Sea.
Formerly Danish and British possessions (Britain gave up the islands to Germany in 1890 in the Heligoland-Zanzibar Treaty), the islands (population 1,650) are located in the Heligoland Bight (part of the German Bight) in the southeastern corner of the North Sea. They are the only German islands not in the immediate vicinity of the mainland and are approximately three hours' sailing time from Cuxhaven at the mouth of the River Elbe.

Werner Heisenberg first formulated the equation underlying his picture of quantum mechanics while on Heligoland in the 1920s. While a student of Arnold Sommerfeld at Munich in the early 1920s, Werner Heisenberg (1901–75) first met the Danish physicist Niels Bohr. He and Bohr went for long hikes in the mountains and discussed the failure of existing theories to account for the new experimental results on the quantum structure of matter. Following these discussions, Heisenberg plunged into several months of intensive theoretical research, but met with continual frustration. Finally, suffering from a severe attack of hay fever, he retreated to the treeless (and pollenless) island of Heligoland in the summer of 1925. There he conceived the basis of the quantum theory. [He was 24 and for this work 7 years later he recieved a Nobel Prize.]

Heligoland was formerly called Heyligeland, or "holy land," possibly due to the island's long association with the god Forseti.

Hello Mariusz ,
I suppose that is a well known place , but I discover this beautiful coastal scenery . Colors of the cliffs are stunning . The compposition is classical but effective .

Hello Mariusz,
A quantum leap in my know how of quantum mechanics it isn't, but certainly a lovely view. In any case the concrete wall is able to make a quantum change in directions ! And seems to be able to make a quantum jump forward in the far... A lovely view, with a mysterious element.

Hi Mariusz,
I am happy to see this wonderful impression of one of the most interesting places in Germany here! And I enjoyed reading your interesting note. The photo is brilliant; it is not only the contrast of the colors that makes it so attractive, you have also chosen a very well working POV on the "Lange Anna". But as already mentioned before, the sky is the icing on the cake!
Warm regards
Harriet

Hi Mariusz
the whispy clouds really complete the scene...with a clear blue sky, i don't think it would have the same impact.
too bad the lighting was so harsh here for you, making it hard to adjust to.
its great to include the poeple at top right...really goes to show just how large this natural structure is!
beautiful cliffs edge for viewing
well done
Cheers

ciao Mariusz,
la roccia illumina con il suo colore rosso lo scatto e crea un bel contrasto cromatico con il blu del mare.
Striscia di cielo azzurro e turisti che si scorgono in lontananza, mi piace.

Hello Mariusz,
This view has much in common with your Irish shots, maybe the common style of taking pictures, very good indeed. These colorful rocks look beautiful against the greenish-blue sea and the blue sky. The forms of the clouds say that the wind was pretty strong at the moment of capturing. Very well composed and captured in a masterly fashion!
Best regards,
Sergiy

Hi Mariusz,

Now if it had been Schroedinger and not Heisenburg, you could have named the photograph "The Uncertainty Principle" as a clever comment on the weather;).

This is a great shot, with some lovely management of the colours: you could have overloaded on the saturation and produced some strong reds and blues, btu I think the pastel colours you have worked with are far more appropriate to northern Europe.

regards and thanks, Iain

dear Mariusz,
wow,
a beautiful view shot of splendid red rock and cliff against wonderful sky and ocean,
the natural tower of standing rock looks wonder and the red and white layered pattern on the rock and cliff is very artistic,
it is well contrasted with straight and angled breakwater, and white drawing cloud in the sky too,
clear light and comfortable atmosphere are superb,
thank you for your excellent shot,
Akihisa

Hi M,
Well, good thing happen to those who are patient :) I'm not patient, but luckily, I'm have a fair share of good and bad weather. Mostly I like to think I'm luckier than most. I start Praying for good weather before I went to Patagonia :) and I did get many good days out of the 2 weeks I was there. Even when it's cloudy, it was not raining or windy.

anyhow, you have really great light here and the clouds and sky fantastic, can't ask for better. the clarity if superb here, great sharpness and so much detail on this rock, almost as red as in Utah, except this is by the sea.

Bonjour Mariusz,
Ce paysage est superbe avec les falaises bien colorées sur le bleu de la mer. La digue doit ętre utile mais pas des plus esthétiques. Il reste une excellente composition et une excellente lumičre.

Hello Mariusz!

Amazing place, excellent landscape photography! Excellent POV and perspective, great framing and composition, great depth of field! Perfet light management, amazing colours, excellent sharpness and overall definition! Congratulations!

Hercules

Hi Mariusz, an oldie but a goodie! I'm sorry you were not happy in this place. My Italian cousin worked a year for her specialism in paediatrics near here and the place also did not agree with her. Interesting rock formations, a little like those in Turkey you recently posted :) The left of the frame seems a little soft, but the colours and saturation are excellent. TFS and I wish you a good day, Lisa

Hello Mariuz,
a nice view of this well-knwoin place which maybe in some year is not longer visible. Well done.
best wishes,
Achim

Hi Mariusz,
Very good image quality in this photo of your archives. The landscape of this abrupt coast, with the impressive cliffs, provides with a great beauty to the composition. I like the framing in thirds, reserving a space to the sky and the horizon of the sea, for to balance graphically the whole set.
Excellent work of 2006, my friend.
Best regards,
Josep

Ah! Il principio di indeterminazione di Heisenberg (sorry I don't know how it is in English), I've studied it my first year at university (Chemistry)... so our good old Werner and Niels used to walk here! Very interesting! No wander they did, it's such a lovely place! I love the red colour of this cliff and its layers so clearly reproduced in your photo, and I love the sight of this green sea and the long jetty and the gorgious sky.
It shows how you had a good eye for composition even long ago.
An excellent seascape in my view thanks also to the fine light.

All the best,
Donato

Ciao Mariusz,
questa č un'immagine che trova i suoi effetti speciali nella naturalezza ed in una composizione di grande classe. Magnifica la luce ed i colori, cielo sensazionale.
Un carissimo abbraccio

Good evening Mariusz,
The photograph is superb and spectacular, with a remarkable search for framing. Cheer for the note and the homage to the pioneers of quantum mechanics. The quality of the photograph is excellent. Cheer.

Hello Mariusz,

Its a great pov well composed thanks to the opposition between rocks and construction. The light is well managed and renders a splendid sky.

Hello Mariusz
Your note accompanying the fine picture made me learn something new today! I know about Heisenberg & the quantum mechanics equation, but was not aware of this place! Fine colour of the rocks...the red with strong strata & the isolated rock standing detached, an effect of sea erosion. Colour contrast with the sea is excellent as well. Fine work!

Hi Mariusz.
Newly arrived from my vacation, and we are again enjoying the beautiful images on TE.
As is the case with these spectacular cliffs, the color variation in different grains is surprising, the contrast with the verdi-blue sea and the sky is a fantastic display of beauty.
Great work, full of light and color and perfect clarity.
Have a nice day. Best regards.

Hi Mariusz,
beautiful red rocks.great weather and colors. An interesting place.

An interrting earth formation, as we know most of Schleswig-Holstein, is a flat land, Mariusz.
But out at sea, this looks amazing "growing" high a step cliff.
Colors are intense, contrast well to open ocean deep-dark and the blue sky. The white seagulls circling are a nice addition.
Fine shot, well managed.
Ike
