A bit of icy air, Valleraugue

One view.
Another view.

In the CÉVENNES, in Valleraugue, the MOUNT AIGOUAL and its weather station.

_ The CÉVENNES are mountains, part of the Massif-Central, extending in the districts of Lozère and Gard, whose culminating points are the peak of Finiels in Lozère to 1699 m, the AIGOUAL MOUNT in Gard with 1567 m.

_ The MOUNT AIGOUAL is a granitic mountain, culminating point to 1567 m of Gard and second culminating point of Lozere after the mount Lozere 1699 m. It is a south-eastern part of the Massif-Central mountain. It is remarkable by its panorama, its climatology. In clear weather, one discovers on 300 km of ray, the Mediterranean, the mount Lozere, the Mounts of the Cantal, the Pyrenees, the Alps.
One discovers there the top close of Portalet of 1565 m, and of course the large causses and the surrounding Cevennes.
The watershed between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean crosses the summit part. Several rivers take there their source of which Herault.

A weather station was built of 1887 to 1894, a such strong castle. Its weather observatory is the last in France, being occupied by the men. The climatic conditions are very hard, Aigoual recoit on average 2,5 m of rain per annum. In more than one table of orientation, the station proposes a museum on the history of meteorology.

The climatic conditions are very hard, Aigoual receives on average 2,5 m of rain per annum.
Some statements records:
Maximum temperature: 28,7 °C on August 11, 2003, minimal: -28°C in 1956.
Maximum speed of the wind: 171 km/h on average on a day, gusts exceeding 360 km/h on November 1, 1968.
Quantity of maximum rain of 24 hours: 607 mm enter on October 30, 1963 to 6 p.m. and on October 31, 1963 to 18h.
Maximum height of fresh snow cumulated in 1 year: 10,39 meters (winter 1995-1996).
Numbers average annual days of freezing: 144; days of heat 25 °C: 0; days of rain: 170; days of strong wind 16 m/s: 265; days of fog: 241; days when the ground is covered with snow: 118.
It is also the place of Metropolitan France where the most important office pluralities of rain over short periods are recorded, in particular during the ÉPISODES CÉVENOLS in autumn. The strongest annual office plurality, 4 015 mm was recorded in 1913.

VALLERAUGUE is a French commune, located in the department of the Gard of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 1070 Valleraugois in 2009, distributed on 78.4 km², that is to say 13.7 hab./km².

Valleraugue history.

Valleraugue is a municipality of the National Park of the Cévennes.

The Mont-Aigoual and the the river the HÉRAULT source, are on the territory of the municipality of Valleraugue.

_ The HÉRAULT is a coastal river of south of France of 160 km length. It takes its source in the department of Gard, in the Solid mass of Aigoual to 1228 m of altitude. It is thrown in the Mediterranean in Agde in the department of Herault. It crosses a catchment area of 2900 km². Its very irregular flow is of 52 m3/s on average annual, but can reach 4000 m3/s at the time of strong risings. After having been a descending torrent of the important slopes, it slips and is boxed in a valley bored in limestones of causses, then is spread out a little in the coastal plain. Its very irregular course and sometimes very violent one is not easy to domesticate. One finds however there some old forgotten mills, built like fortresses to resist the fury of his spectacular risings. The Hérault Description.

Hello Joel,
Great snowy image with good exposure! The amount of icy frost covering the bushes in the foreground and the roof of the castle is just astounding. One can see that this place is quite high in the mountains, because of how the sky becomes very deep intense dark blue color.
Great job!

Hello dear Joel,
Another perfect wintery capture. Nice entry wity many good and usefull notes.
TFS and best regards

Hello Joel
This is what you call a snow scene.
Fantastic! The wonderful shapes in the snow caused by a howling wind look almost alien.
Best Wishes

Hi Joel,
Indeed, the place looks like somewhere on the far far North! You have captured a really interesting view executed with a fantastic color contrast. Good work, TFS!

Bonjour Joel,
unusual winter view and place. Amazing ice and snowy forms. Nice architecture of building of weather station. Good shot and presentation with complementary WS. Photos I like.
Have a nice day.

Ciao Joel, wonderful compo, so nice texture in the snow, the white for me is perfect balanced, beautiful light and clear sky...fantastic contrast...excellent work...

Bonsoir Joel,
a wonderful composition with most effective depth and clarity that give us the opprtunity to explore the scenery in a very delightful way. I love the natural luminosity of the snow and how the castle and some rocky parts have started to emerge from the thick white veil that covers them. The smooth blue backdrop is a very fine part of the composition. The closer view of the castle in your workshop is quite attractive too. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

Bonjour Joel

This picture conveys the feeling of a very cold and windy day. The forms of the ice around the bushed are indeed fascinating, it must have been a very cold wind that swept along here. A very interesting view, together with the complementary pictures. A very enjoyable note!
Kind regards

Hello Joel,
it is hard to believe you shot it somewhere in France - it looks more like South Pole to me. I like especially the snow covered bushes in the foreground which make the impression of a piles of whipped cream :-) Very nice surrounding for the building in the background. Nicely given colors and contrast.
Thanks for sharing

Fresh white snow on pic., Joel, remarkable sight on the mountain's top.
The castle has two antenas, as modernism taken over every corner on earth...
Fine shot on cold weather, yet a shining bright day.
Bon weekend,

Bonjour Joel

This snow is much thicker, and the temperature appears to have plummeted. The graduated blue sky provides an effective background for the shot in the CÉVENNES weather station. With the detailed note, your packet is again a generous gift of your time and research to Trekearth.

Warm regards,

Salut Joel,
