Siberian cold, Valleraugue

One view.
Another view.

In the CÉVENNES, in Valleraugue, the MOUNT AIGOUAL and its harsh climatic conditions.

The CÉVENNES are mountains, part of the Massif-Central, extending in the districts of Lozère and Gard, whose culminating points are the peak of Finiels in Lozère to 1699 m, the AIGOUAL MOUNT in Gard with 1567 m.

The MOUNT AIGOUAL is a granitic mountain, culminating point to 1567 m of Gard and second culminating point of Lozere after the mount Lozere 1699 m. It is a south-eastern projection of the Massif-Central mountain. It is remarkable by its panorama, its climatology. In clear weather, one discovers on 300 km of ray, the Mediterranean, the mount Lozere, the Mounts of the Cantal, the Pyrenees, the Alps.
One discovers there the top close of Portalet of 1565 m, and of course the large causses and the surrounding Cevennes.
The watershed between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean crosses the summit part. Several rivers take there their source of which Herault.

A weather station was built of 1887 to 1894, a such strong castle. Its weather observatory is the last in France, being occupied by the men. The climatic conditions are very hard, Aigoual recoit on average 2,5 m of rain per annum. In more than one table of orientation, the station proposes a museum on the history of meteorology.

The climatic conditions are very hard, Aigoual receives on average 2,5 m of rain per annum.
Some statements records:
Maximum temperature: 28,7 °C on August 11, 2003, minimal: -28°C in 1956.
Maximum speed of the wind: 171 km/h on average on a day, gusts exceeding 360 km/h on November 1, 1968.
Quantity of maximum rain of 24 hours: 607 mm enter on October 30, 1963 to 6 p.m. and on October 31, 1963 to 18h.
Maximum height of fresh snow cumulated in 1 year: 10,39 meters (winter 1995-1996).
Numbers average annual days of freezing: 144; days of heat 25 °C: 0; days of rain: 170; days of strong wind 16 m/s: 265; days of fog: 241; days when the ground is covered with snow: 118.
It is also the place of Metropolitan France where the most important office pluralities of rain over short periods are recorded, in particular during the ÉPISODES CÉVENOLS in autumn. The strongest annual office plurality, 4 015 mm was recorded in 1913.

VALLERAUGUE is a French commune, located in the department of the Gard of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 1070 Valleraugois in 2009, distributed on 78.4 km², that is to say 13.7 hab./km².

Valleraugue history.

Valleraugue is a municipality of the National Park of the Cévennes.

The Mont-Aigoual and the the river the HÉRAULT source, are on the territory of the municipality of Valleraugue.

_ The HÉRAULT is a coastal river of south of France of 160 km length. It takes its source in the department of Gard, in the Solid mass of Aigoual to 1228 m of altitude. It is thrown in the Mediterranean in Agde in the department of Herault. It crosses a catchment area of 2900 km². Its very irregular flow is of 52 m3/s on average annual, but can reach 4000 m3/s at the time of strong risings. After having been a descending torrent of the important slopes, it slips and is boxed in a valley bored in limestones of causses, then is spread out a little in the coastal plain. Its very irregular course and sometimes very violent one is not easy to domesticate. One finds however there some old forgotten mills, built like fortresses to resist the fury of his spectacular risings. The Hérault Description.

Bon weekend.

Pierre

Hello Joel - we're neighbors today, and have both posted very cold shots! Putting this amazing snow-swept and frozen cross in FG with the weather station behind works nicely, and you've exposed a difficult shot perfectly, capturing well the sharp and bright light of clear sunlight striking fresh snow. Thanks!

Andrew

Hi Joël,
It really looks very cold and icy here, i don't envy you at all, we have cold enough in Gothenburg... But this is a very good picture with the cross and the antenna well placed in rhe composition, and providing a good depth by their positions. The pale blue sky also conveys the feeling of coldness.
Kind regards
Gunnar

Bien cordialement

Hello Josel,
indeed looks like Siberian cold. Ii's cold just look at this pic. Wonderfully executed and presenetd to us this winter scenery. I like your work. Tfs.
Best regards and have a nice Sunday,
Barbara

Amicalement

Hi Joel, it looks indeed very cold, like on Siberia or near the North Cap. marvelous winter landscape. I like inclusion of this cross. The place must be very windy. Excellent depth and winter atmosphere wonderfully presented.

Warm regrads

Bonjour Joel,

Certainly a very COLD shot!
You have composed the whole very well, the frozen cross dominating the f/g and leading nicely to the equally frozen communication mast.
Fine dof.

Have a lovely Sunday,
Bev :-)

Mountain top's under shining snow, frozen commu. tower in great depth from the small cross monument in FG, Joel.
No other people seem to be taken a stroll on the icy top, only you and the camera.
Fine balanced the white.
Bon dimanche,

Hello Joel,

Cordialement.

Hello Joël,
This winter scene consists of so many interesting and aesthetic compositional elements. Especially I like the cross in the foreground, which is beautifully decorated with snow and wind. Very well composed, perfectly framed, masterfully captured and informatively commented!

Laurent

Ciao Joel, brrr, very cold, remember me a scene from "The day after tomorrow", fantastic frozen composition, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Bonjour Joel,
beautiful collection of winter landscapes. This is so pretty here and so unusual: I have never seen snow growing sidewise as on this cross in the foreground. It seems the wind was very strong and it was very cold. I am glad I watch the view sitting in a warm room :)
Beautiful work,
M

Bon après-midi !

Sylvain

Hello Joel,

You're capturing well this place by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the frozen ground and snow. You have caught the object like a gravestone and antenna in the good position, too. And, it's effective for the slope and the color contrast between blue sky and snowy white ground.

Kind regards,
mikio

Salut Joel,
