First Mirror, Niort

One view.
Other view.

In the MUSÉE BERNARD D'AGESCI, in Niort, one can discover, inter alia, this sculpture “PREMIER MIROIR", 1873, first mirror, of the sculptor JEAN-BAPTISTE BAUJAULT, born in La Crèche in the department of Deux-Sèvres, on April 19th, 1828, deceased on November 27th, 1899. In the village of La Crèche, in street of “La Basse-Crèche”, a stele posed on a house recalls that an artist was born and died here. One can see his tomb into the cemetery known as of "Breloux", à La Crèche.

Baujault Baptist, Huguenot and republican, made a modest career under the second Empire and the Third Republic.
He lived and worked in Paris, from Montparnasse to Montmartre. He knew glory, only briefly:
in 1870 for its "JEUNE GAULOIS CRIANT: AU GUI L'AN NEUF", visible in the museum of Orsay, and in 1873 for its “PREMIER MIROIR”.
it carried out representations of characters of the area, like the COLONEL DENFERT-ROCHEREAU in Saint-Maixent-l'École.

Bertrand of Guesclin took again Niort of the hands of the English on March 23, 1372.

_Francoise d'AUBIGNÉ was born there. Future "Madame de Maintenon" (Niort 1635 - Saint-Cyr-l'Ecole 1719). Favorite, then morganatic wife in 1683 of the king Louis XIV. Her father Constant d'Aubigné, was the son of the famous poet Agrippa d'Aubigné.

Nicole

Hello Joël,
A very good perspective on this wonderful array of statues. The detail and textures are very nicely rendered with good tones and excellent use. Useful and informative note.

Bonjour Joel,

Bel enlignement.

Quelle superbe note d’accompagnement.

Amitiés,
Wladyslaw

Admiration !
Amitiés.
Philippe

Hi Joël,
A good POV to show this line of beautiful sculptures in this perspective from a low angle. Together with interesting WS:s and note make this a very valued contribution!
Kind regards
Gunnar
