The "Tour Carrée", Peyreleau

One sight.
Other sight.

The "Tour Carrée", square tower, or "Tour de l'Horloge", clock tower, 17th century.
Sight on the rock of Capluc of the commune of Le Rozier, which dominates at 625 meters.

In the commune of PEYRELEAU, the "Tour Carrée" is built on a rock platform and dominates the JONTE river over its left bank.
It was built in 1617 in place of a feudal castle of the 12th century, now disappeared.

The commune and the village of Peyreleau, in the department of Aveyron of the Midi-Pyrénées area on left bank of Jonte river at the foot of "CAUSSE NOIR" and at the entrance of the "GORGES de la JONTE", face the commune and the village of Rozier, in the department of Lozère of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, on right bank of Jonte river, left bank of the Tarn river, with the confluence of the Tarn river and Jonte river, at the foot of Causse Méjean.
While crossing the JONTE river, one changes village, commune, department and area.

_The JONTE river takes its source in the Massif of the Mont Aigoual, near the hameau of Cabrillac of the commune of Rousses, in the department of Lozère, and separates by splendid canyons, the Causse Méjean and Causse Noir, Lozère and Aveyron, after the village of Gatuzières. It is thrown in the Tarn at the village of "le Rozier", after 39 km of course. Jonte river becomes underground to 3 km downstream from Meyrueis, and arises 7 km further with resurgence of the Douze.

_Les "GORGES de la JONTE" is a canyon of 21 kilometers, dug by Jonte river between the "CAUSSE MÉJEAN" and the "CAUSSE NOIR", extending from Meyrueis to Rozier.

_The "CAUSSE NOIR" extends on 200 km², (on the departments of Aveyron, Gard and Lozère), and is smallest of "GRANDS CAUSSES", large causses.
It is limited by the deep canyons of Jonte river to North, of Dourbie river in the south, the Tarn river in the west, and by the buttresses of the Cevennes in the East.

_The "GRANDS CAUSSES", in the south of the Massif Central, are delimited in north by the plateau of "Aubrac", in the east by the Cévennes, the south by the plain of the "lodévois", in the west by the plateau of "Lévézou". These are plateaus limestones whose altitude varies from 700 to 1250 meters of altitude, and of surface going up to 1000 km².
The "Grands Causses" are formed by important "Causses of Larzac" (1000 km²), of "Sauveterre" (550 km²), "Méjean" (330 km²), and "Noir" (200 km²), but also of the causses "Comtal", "Rouge" and of "Sévérac", and many small peripheral causses like causses of "Mende", "Blandas", "Changefèges", "Bégon", etc… No waterway circulates on the surface of the plates, because the rainwater infiltrates in the karstic, generating networks of many swallow-holes and caves, to re-appear in the valleys. Geology of causses and the cévennes.

PEYRELEAU is a french commune located in the department of Aveyron of the Midi-Pyrénées area, populated of 70 Peyrelebens in 1999, distributed out of 17 km², that is to say 4hab./km².

Howdy Joel!
Amazing town. Nice cityscape. Superb tower and roofs. Amazing mount. Excellent scenery. Good natural light and colors.
Cordially!

Hello Joël,
I like how the square tower is somehow echoed by the background mountain peak. A fine well balanced composition with good colours and sharpness. Some nice tonal contrasts offered by the red roofs.

Hi Joel,
what a view, this is a superb photo of this beautiful place, the composition is very spectacular, the atmosphere of the photo is picturesque. The architectural details are beautiful, great shot. Tfs!
Have a nice week!
George

Excellente composition!

Carlos

This village, surrounded with so beautiful rocks, looks very picturesquely. Excellent composition with the tower and red-roofed houses in the frame of green vegetation and expressive rocks. Perfect colors and light. Great job!
