Gustatory emotion, in the village of Garette of the commune of Sansais.

If you pass by la Garette, an authentic village in full heart of the Marsh From Poitou, located on the commune of Sansais, stop “Aux Mangeux de Lumas”, and taste some snails.

The snails, the cagouilles or lumas, according to their local name, belong to the emblematic elements of the Poitevine cooking, with the fish stew or the fricassée of eels, the white beans of the marsh, "mogettes", with raw ham, the goat's cheese, the angelica liquor…

Eaten of course in the form of stuffed snails, but often proposed according to the regional receipt of “Sauce aux Lumas”.

Henri IV knew and liked this region. Henri III of Navarre, future Henri IV, whereas it placed with the castle of Mursay, close to Niort, stopped in the village of Garette in 1576, qu ' it described as follows: “… few houses which does not enter of its door its small boat…”.

Sansais is a french commune, located in the department of Deux-Sèvres of the Poitou-Charentes area, populated of 659 Sansaiens in 1999, distributed out of 15 km², that is to say 44 hab./km².

The commune include two villages, Sansais, perched on a slope of the woodlands, and Garette with the side of a hillock, at the bank of the canals, conches and drains.

Have to say I have never tasted this dish though I am not averse to snails despite my English origins ;-) Looks very tasty washed down by a nice glass of red wine. Thanks for sharing. Will not be posting this week as we have our daughter here to stay.

La prise de vue en diagonale du plat d'escargots et de la mise en place de la table attire notre regard. L'image est claire et nette. Le sujet est bien cadré. La luminosité donne un bon rendu aux couleurs. Bon weekend.

L'escargots have made their way onto English menus, but I have resisted them so far. I think I will take a glass of your red wine and go and enjoy the scenes in the WSs instead. ;D

On ne voit pas assez de vues concernant la nourriture et toutes les spécialités de nos régions. Il fallait nous montrer ce plat. L'inclusion de la bouteille est aussi fort opportune.

my mouth was watering when I opened this image! Very delicious dish and excellent photo work, especially the management of the difficult light. The perspective is outstanding, and the way the bottle of whine is hiding the décolleté of the lady is simply charming! You really are a gentleman. This image made my day. TFS!

ho una simpatia tale per le lumache che in estate, prima di falciare l'erba del prato, le sposto con le mani dai loro luoghi preferiti, che sono sempre gli stessi, lungo la recinzione che sta all'ombra, per non ucciderle. Non le ho mai assaggiate, non le assaggerò mai.. :-) ma comprendo che per molti siano un piatto gustoso, e non giudico. Non sapevo che nella tua regione d'origine fossero un piatto così speciale. ed è bello e curioso conoscere un paese anche attraverso le sue abitudini alimentari. la tavola è a mio avviso un grande luogo d'incontro tra e con le persone.
