Small fortified castle.

Small fortified castle and chapel.
Chapel, châtelet, tapestry of the Apocalypse gallery.

Châtelet, (in french), small fortified castle of XVth century in the castle of Angers.

Inside the castle of Angers, castle of court of the dukes of Anjou, the GARDENS, the CHÂTELET, the CHAPEL and the royal home were entirely built by Louis II of Anjou and King Rene.

_Châtelet of king Rene and his turrets, built in 1450.

_the Sainte-Genevieve chapel contiguous to the Home of the King, built in 1410.
(One cannot photograph any more the chapel and the home of the contiguous king whose roofs are hidden by protections and scaffolding, following the fire of January 10th, 2009, which destroyed 400 m² roof of the Home of the King.).

_The castle of Angers, known as also the castle of King René, famous like one of most impregnable of France, dominates Maine and the slate roofs of Angers, capital historical of Anjou.depuis a rock headland occupied by the man since the Neolithic era.
_The station of alarm installed by the counts of Anjou at the 9th century to make face the threat of Norman, passed under the control of the dynasty of Plantagenêts to the 12th century, and was conquered in 1204 per Philippe II, then became at the 13th century a royal fortress built under regency, of 1226 to 1234, White of Castille mother of future king de France Louis IX, said Saint-Louis.

_It is a fortress of the 13th century including 17 turns of about thirty meters height and twelve meters diameter and an enclosure of almost one kilometer built out of schist and fair limestone, residence of the dukes of Anjou with 14th and 15th century. The turns were higher of about ten meters before their levelling at the 16th century.

_The ditches which never received water are decorated with splendid gardens wanted by King René.

_The castle shelters today the 107 meters length tapestry of the Apocalypse, in a long gallery, celebrates hanging dating from the Middle Ages, reporting the Apocalypse according to Saint-Jean, ordered in 1373 per Louis the First of Anjou, and completed around 1382.

_The year 2009 is the 600th birthday of the birth of King Rene, René 1st of Anjou, known as Good King René, born on January 16th with Angers, duke of Anjou of 1434 with its death, on July 10th, 1480 in Aix-en-Provence, and buried with the cathedral of Angers.
_Barded titles, Good King René, was inter alia, duke consort of Lorraine of 1431 to 1453, and thus the CROSS of ANJOU, symbolic system of the dukes of Anjou, became the well-known CROSS OF LORRAINE, which thus owes its form with the Christian cross, added of a cross-piece to the top of Christ, carrying the text of Pontius Pilate: “Jesus of Nazareth, king of the Jews” (INRI).

Angers is a French commune, located in the department of Maine-et-Loire of the area of the Pays de la Loire, populated of 151179 Angevins in 1999, distributed out of 44 km ², that is to say 3407 hab./km².

Angers is the prefecture of the department of Maine-et-Loire, and the old capital of Anjou, located at the edge of Maine, close to its confluence with the Loire.
The city is classified with the world heritage of UNESCO.

It is a familiar city of which I know well the Chevrollier college and the campus of Belle-Beille.

Amicalement

Hello Joël,
I like the point of view here looking over the formalised gardens towards castle and church. The greens of the parterres make a pleasing contrast with the light tones of the tuffeau stone. I like also the graphical elements of the gardens. Very good light and natural colours. You do not seem to have done much better with the weather in Angers than I did.

Hi Joel,

You have captured the castle nicely by using the beautiful garden as foreground. Framing is superb and sharpness is perfect. Congrats.

Nicole

Hi Joel,
fascinating mood, the composition of the photo is splendid, the architectural details are beautiful, the garden in the foreground is charming. Beautiful sight. Congratulations. Have a nice day!

The chateau may be small Joel but the vista is big - very cute chateau, a chapel that almost looks bigger and a grand garden with tortured plants + good clouds and colour management = good one.

Pierre

Hello Joel.
Maybe not a bright sunny day, but the careful nature of the composition allows the various elements to be pleasingly arranged and well balanced. The closest topiary arches are in a nice diagonal with the chatelet. There is a lovely gentle light falling on the garden and the chatelet and the chapel make good highlights against the cloudy sky.
Regards,
Andrew

Ciao Joel,
ottimo lavoro
Giorgio

Everything is pristine about this image. The clean lines of the chateau and the church and the well manicured lawns, topiary and hedges combine to make an excellent shot. Thanks too for the WSs which give plenty of additional information about this place.

Hi Joel,
Very beautiful gardening with plants cut into different geometry shapes to create patterns at garden, good pov to show it, nice castle showing in WS, unique it is surrouding by four towers at each corner, thanks for sharing the beautiful old castle.
Ally

Laurent
