Canyon and circus.

One sight.
Other sight.

Vis river canyon, and the hamlet of Navacelles at the bottom of the circus of the same name. The bottom of the canyon is to 300 m under the level of causse of Blandas opposite and of causse of Larzac.

The Vis is a small river, abundant but very irregular. Supplied with its catchment area, its risings can be extremely important. November 8, 1982, the maximum instantaneous flow was 542 m³, five hundred and forty two m³, a second, in Saint-Laurent-le-Minier for a rising hardly of a decennial nature, banal and by no means exceptional.

Tributary of Herault, a 30 km length. It takes its source on the Saint-Guiral mount in the solid mass of Aigoual. It disappears in the ground with Larcy whereas its flow reaches 50 l/s. Approximately 15 km further, it goes on surface in a résurgence with Vissec, with the mill of Lafoux with a flow of 1200 to 2500 l/s. Its affluents are in major undergrounds part. the Vis erodes the basement, provocative constantly underground crumblings able to stop its course of the hours, even days, as in 1779, 1890, 1927 and 1961. Its exploration, appears difficult and dangerous in a water with 11° and a very strong current. The Vis then impressed its bed of surface in impressive canyons reaching 300 m of depth dug in plates limestones called causses, of which the Causse of Larzac, crossing the imposing site of the Circus of Navacelles. It follows its torrential course giving its energy to an electric micro-power station in Madières, and its purity with some pisciculture with trouts of quality, then is thrown in Herault in Ganges.

The freshness and the purity of the Vis river are appraisals, close classified falls.

Saint-Maurice-Navacelles is a french commune, located in the department of the Herault of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 142 inhabitants in 1999, divided out of 69 km², that is to say 2 hab./km².

Hamlet of Navacelles is on the commune of Saint-Maurice-Navacelles, resulting from the fusion of the three communes from Saint-Maurice, Navacelles and Madières.

Hello Joël

A superb downward pov, on the dry, meandering oxbox bend of the river, with good sharpness, & nice inclusion of the blue mountain ranges, at the top, to add color contrasts. Merci pour ce beau partage, et amities. Bon Mercredi!

Hallo Joel!
One of the most impressive landscape photos I've ever seen. This view truly is breathtaking and the whole scenery, also because of the cloud's shadows, nearly looks a bit mysterious. Congratulations to this picture! What a view! Chapeau!!!
Greetings from summerly Germany!
Frank

Salut Joel,

Very impressive canyon, it seems a vulcan crater. The image is so good, great depth, excellent details.

Greetings

Roger

Ciao Joel,
sembra una foto scattata dall'elicottero, uno spettacolo della natura, i 142 abitanti vivvono in un paradiso terrestre.
ottimo lavoro

John

A superb shot Joel,
It really captures the area well - deep valley, windy roads, interesting small towns and villages.
You've got the light right and it lets me see the causses that I didn't see when I was in the area - low clouds and rain stopped us seeing anything.
Regards
ian

bonjour joel

Marie Louise.
