Middle Ages castle.

Baulx Castle XIIth XIIIth XIVth centuries. Remainders of enclosures XIIIth XVth centuries. Keep XIIth century.

One sight.
Other sight, September 11, 2007.

The historians call Middel Ages, one Western historical period of approximately 1000 years. At the end of Antiquity, begin the Middle Ages, symbolically placed to France, with the baptism of Clovis Ier towards 498, first Christian king of the kingdom of the Francs from 481 to 511, resulting from the dynasty of Mérovingiens, which became France in XIIIth century.

Vassal of the baronnie of Pégairolles, the seigniory of "Saint-Jean-de-Buèges" appears in the texts into 990.
The construction of the castle begin at XIIème century. Using the dominant position of the piton rock, leaned with the "Roc de Tras Castel", it was initially a station of monitoring. A main tower evolved of XIIIème in XIVème century to a true fortress of which remain today the keep, a main building, towers and an enclosure.
The castle passed to the hands of some propriètaires of noble lineage or being used as protection in 1703 with the population terrorized by the camisards.
In 1987, a gift of the last owner to the town hall allows launching into 1990 of work of safeguard and restoration parallélement some historical excavation campaigns intended to specify the provision of the rebuildings. Work began in 1991.

Saint-Jean-de-Buèges, authentic medieval village nested in the valley of the buèges river which crosses the villages of Pégairolles-de-Buèges and Saint-Andre-de-Buèges, is a place splendid and quiet, no surge of mass, it is the field of the amateurs of nature, uneven and beautiful images. One takes there also time to live on the terrace of single and small tavern of the valley.

Buèges river takes its source on the commune of Pégairolles-de-Buèges, with the hamlet of Méjanel, by a karstic resurgence, draining part of water of the solid mass of Séranne and theis Causse of Larzac. This 12 km length river is thrown in Herault, after having disappeared in the rocks limestones on a few kilometers from course, reappearing on the surface only by abundant rain.
Dominated by Séranne mountain to 940 m with highest, and the causse of the Selle, its valley cut in the rock is a true haven of peace, paradise of strolls and the excursion.

SAINT-JEAN-DE-BUÈGES is a french commune, located in the department of the Herault of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 184 Saint-Jeannais in 1999, distributed on 17 km², that is to say 11 hab./km².

Good morning Joel,
Again a perfect entry; both photographially and informative.
Good pov (specially with the nice red brick of the roof in foreground) and perfect notes.
A good sample for, how a proper TE entry should be !
TFS and best regards

Merhaba Joel;
A different view in here.Very fine lights, and very natural tonality. And an amazing castle, what a beautiful!

Hi Joel,
Romantic atmosphere, very attractive image of this interesting and spectacular place. The castle glittering because of the lights is beautiful before the shaded rocky background. The composition is superb, excellent lights and clarity. Congratulations. Have a nice week!

Hi Joel,

This looks like a scene from a fairy tale. Nice composition with the roof in the foreground. The only thing I would have done differently is to either cut off the sky completely or give it more room. That small blue corner distracts my eye a bit... ;o)

Best wishes, thanks for sharing

Bonjour Joel,
This is a very beautiful view with the capture is perfect.I like the POV here.
Exellent work!
Have a nice day.

Re-salut Joel,

Hallo Joel!
You show us a simple but really well-fortified and somehow proud castle. "Silhouetting" it - wonderfully illuminated - in front of this dark rock face works very well here and emphasizes the building. In combination with your excellent note and the links again a wonderful contribution here on TE.
Greetings from Germany, with 40 cm snow - and rain!

Hello Joël,
A fine composition; I like the tonal and textural contrasts offered by the roof on one side and the trees on the other. Good natural looking colours and excellent clarity.

This image works really well as there is light on the castle but the background is in shade so the castle shows up effectively. You framed it nicely with the tree and roof top.

Ciao Joel,

Beau travail!

Bonsoir Joel.
Superbe ce chateau ancien, aux lignes severes.
Très beau l'arrière-plan des roches calcaires.
Le toit accroit la profondeur.
Bien vu.
Amicalement, Bobo.

Hi Joel,
excellent composition. Great view 0on this magnificent castle. I like gthe format and the space in the corners for the sky and the red tiled roof
Regards, Gerrit

Joel, this is a great shot! I love the feeling you get when you look at this castle, it obviously was back breaking work for many many years to accomplish such a feat. I also find it interesting that the ownership can be traced all the way back to the construction, great capture.
