CoBrA Reflections

My next post is a new one for my series of reflections as well as in the same style as a photo I posted some time ago: Impressionist The Hague. But no Impressionism today, now it’s time for more modern and abstract art: CoBrA Reflections. It shows the wall of Carl-Henning Pedersen og Lise Alfelts Museum, reflected in the kind of moat that surrounds the building.
I upload this photo in cooperation with my father, he will post a photo with a full version of the same museum, so that my photo gets a bit better to understand. Visit his version here: CoBrA in Herning.

Carl-Henning Pedersen og Lise Alfelts Museum is located in the Danish city of Herning, situated in Region Midtjylland (Region Central Jutland) or formally Ringkjøbings Amt. It’s next to another museum, Herning Kunstmuseum (Herning Art Museum) as well as a sculpture park.
The museum was founded in 1976 and has more than 4000 works of art by the two artists. The museum has also many special exhibitions, especially on the work of other artists that were part of the CoBrA-group, like Asger Jorn, of whom there was an exhibition when I visited the museum.

Carl-Henning Pedersen (1913-2007) was one of the most important Danish painters in the 20th century. In 1934, he married Lise Alfelt. In 1948 they were founding members of the group of Danish, Dutch and Belgian artists, called CoBrA (derived from COpenhagen, BRussels and Amsterdam). In 1976 he donated thousands of his own works and works of his wife who died two year earlier to the museum and he also painted also the huge tiles of the wall of the museum, which is seen reflected on this photo. He also made a huge tiled wall decoration for the courtyard of Herning Kunstmuseum* (see further explanation at the end of this note). Earlier this year he died in Copenhagen after a long sickbed.

I hope you like this photo of the reflection of the huge artwork by Carl-Henning Pedersen in Herning and please also visit my father’s photo of the whole museum.

* - In 1989 I also visited the museum as a four year old boy. Maybe it was here I found my love for the work of Carl-Henning Pedersen and CoBrA and maybe you already knew this, if you already had seen my father’s photo of me in the already mentioned courtyard. When I after 18 years again visited the museum last month, a new picture was taken, with me a little bit older, a photo, my father uploaded as WS for the 1989-version. Here you can find them:
- 1989 and 2007.

Hallo Lars,
groet Rob

A good visual and graphic abtraction... A good eye, a good realization... Well done.

Hi Lars.
Lovely effect in the reflections, it seems a painting.
Great lighting here, very well framed it.
TFS and greetings

Hi Lars
A colorful reflection with strong graphism... I think its colors can be improved though... I did a small WS.. Hope you like it

Nice to see this picture combined with Rob's one. We are really dealing with abstract art here, but the result is very colorfull and the dead leaves in the top left corner make a very original view, sine you understand this is a reflection.

All the best,

Hello Lars,
A different but beautiful image of autumn!
High level of abstraction, creative management...
Good impact and well done!

Bonjour, mon ami Lars,

Your love of art and your love of reflections combined in one image. Very good Lars. I can imagine this enlarged on a blank wall. I remember the earlier photo of you as a child. Looking at the recent shot, you also got your love for red coats at the same time ;D

Hej Lars,
you caught a great reflection, the result is so fine, very well done !
interesting note as always, & with bonus photos to see you at the same place with the same love for red coats as Kath said, hehe

Hoi Lars,

Prettige dag,

Hi Lars,
The reflections are some of the most fascinating I have seen posted on this site. You also were favoured by great lighting here. True artistry. Cheers.

Hej Lars,
the one from Rob is for sure necessary but together an artful realisation of human and natural colours. Even after some views it still challenges my eye and brain.
Nice addition of age comparison as a bonus.
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Hello Lars!

Extraordinary shot! It looks like a modern painting. Great idea, amazing colors and very interesting distorted reflections.

Beautiful abstract work. The colours have come out so well in the reflections. Did you use a polarizer to get them so intense? Very nice shot Lars
Best wishes

mooi werk Lars,
prachtige cobra plaat,
groet Jaap

Hi Lars, I must say I am not a big fan of CoBrA, but the picture is fantastic, the way you incorporated the fallen leaves into the colourful distorted reflections is outstanding and reveals a creative approach!

Dag Lars!

Wow, if I would wear a hat right now, I would have to take it off just to say to you: chapeau!
I am absolutely enhaced about the result, it seems a painting, you always play with reflections in an extraordinary way, this is one of the most beautiful pictures I´ve seen on Te this week.
Congratulations Lars, delightful.

Cheers and thank you for your words about my last image!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Lars,
I like this modern art created by the reflection. The floating autumn leaves created good contrast in texture and I enjoyed the fluid shapes of the reflected buildings. Though it may appear busy but the blue spaces provided nice breathing and resting break for the eyes. BEautifully seen and captured!!

Have a great weekend.

Hi Lars
Very attractive abstract composition despite a possible covered sky.
I suggest you to use the automatic contrast balance to give more lights to the subject.

It looks good sometimes to get away the towns and architecture photos to show a creative composition; And this one is attractive, the leaves for the nature and the Artist work for the creative side.; This is very good.

Hi Lars
This is a strange and beautifull composition. I like the colors, the cropping and the idea you had.

Hi Lars,
amazing painted image. Good idea, fine composition and mosaic of colours. I like it.

Glad to read that 4 year old boys remember and learn to love at that young age - now I know I don't torture my grandsons when trying to install a bit of culture in them.

HI Tue
this is a very good image, very abstract,

is that the Impressionist way?

good shot for me

Hi LArs, this image reminds me to a famous painting Scream (Skrik, 1893) by norwegian artist Edvard Munch....
the colours the reflections, the game of the water...really and interesting image well taken!

Hi Lars. Yes very abstract but at the same time we can make out what the picture is. Well seen and well captured. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hello Lars,

As I pondered the title CoBrA, I wondered whether you had left out the "s" in "As" — Cobalt, Bromide and Arsenic. And I wondered what colors would result from their dissolution in water. Then I read your highly informative note to understand what you had in mind. Good capture, super colors.

Warm regards,

Olá Lars, love this post from the artistic result, to the idea of colaboration with your father and family history behind. The reflection is fantastic and very well captured and composed. The image gives me the mood for trying some CoBrA approaches in my canvas ;-)

Hi Lars,

this capture is more a painting. Combination of impressionist and expressionist manifesting through reflections in water. Excellent capture, nothing more to add.

Kind regards,

Bonsoir Lars,

Hi Lars,
Artistically captured ... great POV. The floating leaves gave the compo some perspective of reality. Superbly composed .... this photo is art by itself. Excellent work! tfs

impressive the abstract mood of this compo. looks like a modernist painting. very nice use of the colors. a compo well done.

An impressionist painter taken advantage to paint on water...
Nice chosen the difficult POV, made the best out with it, Lars. Light and vivid tones marvelously collected.
Enjoy a nice weekend,

Hello Lars,
This is just outstanding! I love the modern artsy feel to it, colors are lovely, too. This is a gem, you should have it enlarged and framed.
