Triennial Bruges 2018: Liquid City

Some members asked to see the other side of the Whale
Here the other side with the stamp of Jan Van Eyck and the tower of the Bruges archive.

STUDIOKCA (USA), SKYSCRAPER (THE BRUGES WHALE)
Spiegelrei t.h.v. the Jan Van Eyckplein

The statue of Jan Van Eyck is face to face with a blue whale, a gigantic sculpture built from waste material collected from the plastic soup that poses a daily threat to all life on earth.

In 2018, the Triënnale will settle for the second time in Bruges. The triennial contemporary art trail, with surprising installations by renowned artists and architects, is spread over the entire city center. The Triennale investigates the future of a city like Bruges and wants to be a safe beacon. Bruges as a flowing city, open and involved, a motor of social, cultural and political change. Bruges as a breeding ground for innovation. Just as the medieval Bruggeling actively shaped its city, the current citizen shares his dreams and wishes about living together in Bruges. Triennial Bruges 2018 stimulates interaction and creates a new urban foundation. The liquid city, literally surrounded by water, becomes a metaphorical Liquid City. A continuous artistic movement, that sometimes stormy and then gently lurching through the city.

hope you can enjoy.

Ciao John, lovely composition with fantastic statue in FG and beautiful facades, wonderful colors, splendid light and excellent clarity, very well done, my friend, have a good weekend, ciao Silvio

Hello John,
It is interesting to see the whale from the other side too. There is a trio of vertical shapes - whale, Van Eyck statue and church tower - that provide a very interesting view and also create depth. The view is lined with beautiful buildings on both sides of the canal. The photo is well balanced and excellently exposed.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello John,
I looked at both photos of the whale, and this one pulled me in a bit more. It seems like the whale is very curious to see what is going on around him, and here we can see so much beautiful architecture, too. It's a shame what humans have done to the oceans with so much plastic waste. I hope the situation will improve, and the whales, and all sea life, can continue to thrive.

Truly a better perspective, John, we get to see the whale as a whole.
It nicely stand out against the city monuments and with its modern texture contrast the architecture's.
Good evening,
Ike

Hello friend John, I remember this interesting place in the beautiful city without the monster, I do not like the plastic monster, I think it breaks the peace of the place. Your good photography shows it perfectly. Very good and interesting work perfectly done, my congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing.

Good night and happy weekend.
Warm greetings from the south of Spain.
Angel.

Hello John,

I have to admit, this reminded me of 'Jaws', when a giant shark came leaping out of the water! It must surprise people when they see it for the first time! However, it striking and a very good use of the plastic debris!
As always, you have created a fine composition, the focal image strongly placed and using good lead lines.
The photograph has excellent clarity.

My warm regards,
Bev

HI John,

The whale is a good focal point. The point of view is showing the details of church, of the statue and of the houses. It is clear and precise. Have a nice day.

Hallo John,
Nog een prachtige foto van deze walvis, die vanuit het water zo het pleintje op lijkt te willen springen. De oude architectuur van de stad met de trapgevels en de ranke toren vormen een prachtig decor in een aangenaam licht.
Lars

Bonjour, cher ami john,
L'effet est toujours aussi spectaculaire. Et la présentation est parfaite;
Les détails sont percutants.
Bravo !
Amitiés.
Philippe

Salut John,
Une auvre vue sous un angle différent de la précdente afin de nous faire bien profiter de cette oeuvre particulièrement originale, elle semble à l'étoit dans ce canal cette baleine, intéressant environnement architectural, bonne gestion des contrastes de luminosité.

Hello John,

I know the place, I was there. But there was not such an interesting piece of art. I like the view from this side better than in your other picture. It seems that the whale is watching what is going on on the Jan van Eyck square.
Intriguing composition.

KInd regards MAlgo

Hello John, both shots of the Blue whale are excellent, with a powerful statement about our careless use of, and disposal of plastics.
I like this shot in particular as we are able to see the statue of Jan Van Eyck, although he does have his back to the whale!
As always, the beautiful buildings of Bruges are a winner.
Regards Jean.

Hello,
Nice postcard with the interesting water sculpture. Great idea to show us the disaster of plastic pollution in the oceans.

Daniel

Hallo John,

Amicalement

Hello John,

It's good to see the recycled whale from this side as well. I like the stepped pyramid shape of the roofs at left and the cyclists at right animate the scene. Good sharpness and the bg spire and statue add focal points. Tfs!

Hi John
ah...whale #2, this is just as good if not better than the first one - i enjoy both. Great to have the whale now from the opposite position with more buildings in the far bg. its a great shot, fun scene, and it came out so well. cheers

Hello John,
Thanks for showing us this interesting statue from a different angle, revealing the different color of its back. Its modern look is quite a contrast to the historic buildings around.👍

A wonderful ides to hold an art festival like this in Brugge and this is a great exhibit. I love the way it rises from the depths against the background of ancient builds, great perspective. A super shot John...

Hi John
Wondering what that whale is up to, but it helps the eye to hang on firmly there and juxtaposed superbly within the setting. The combination of warm light and colour and throng of visitors have lifted this scene tenfold aided by excellent detailed features. Excellent shot, Congrats.
Best wishes
