Bruges

The Huidenvettersplein in the center of Bruges is mainly known as a tourist place, largely furnished to that function.
The square can be reached along the Burg, via the Blinde-Ezelstraat, and along the other side, via Braambergstraat or Rozenhoedkaai. Because of its closed character and its dimensions, one thinks it is more like a courtyard than an actual public place.
The Huidenvettersplein used as a small fish market, so called because the cheaper fish was sold. The surrounding houses were arranged as inns. It was the ordinary people who supplied themselves, the richer people went to buy fish on the neighboring Vismarkt.
In the second half of the 20th century the fish disappeared and the stalls with souvenirs, drawings and paintings came, for the ever-growing tourism in Bruges. The existing jetty at the canal boats continued to grow.
The surrounding houses were almost all shops and restaurants of different levels, with or without a terrace. The Craft House of the Guild of Tanners, built in 1630 and rebuilt in 1912, is still there.

I hope you can enjoy.

Hi John,
That sunlit part really makes a difference on this shot. It gives highlights to the nearest passerbys And brings also attention to stone pavement of this square. Again an excellent view of this charming city.

Hello John,
nice the view of this part Bruges's center with the with the people to add scale in the scene.I like the creative perspective with the excellent light and colour management to enhance even more the clarity as the sharpness of the scene.

Hallo John,
Vele groeten, Paul

Ciao John

Hi John
First rate detail! A pleasure to see so much to enjoy and take in. That's the delightful scene with its ornate olde buildings and a great view so amazingly bright with inviting colours. A shot heightened by presence of people giving the image a great visual impact Congrats and tfs

Good morning,
Nice atmosphere of that old square. A genuine Bruges scebe, well captured.

Hello John,
The buildings are very attractive and there is a nice ambience among the people in the square. It was a pleasantly sunny day in late autumn, so the light is very good and you managed the colours well.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello John, Interesting square with this long brick building. Another nice picture from your archive.

Hello John,

This is so beautiful!
The patterns of the cobbles seem to be repeated on the walls of the hostels.
I wonder if it would be touristy to restore the fish market, people do like historical reminders!
You have take great care with the composition, ensuring the the corner of the buildings is on the thirds line and the f/g figures are equally, strongly placed.
You have controlled the differences in the lighting well.

Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hello John

I remember this little square so well, and have posted at least one image from here. Your photograph gives a clear overview of the place on a lovely sunny Winter's day.

Will

Hello John,
The people add color to the grey cobblestone square and animate the scene. It was a fine fall day to take a stroll.

MT

Dag John
Goed weekend, Groet Rob

Hello John,

How interesting that this area was once a fish market but has now been transformed into a tourist place with shops and a variety of restaurants.

And this looks to be a delightful place in your fine photograph. You have composed this photograph superbly well to make good use of the areas of bright sunlight and shade: I like very much how the little group of people on the right are brightly lit and stand out well against the distant view of the buildings.

Lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

Beautiful!

Kind Regards,

John.
