Sheep in fog.
What is the difference between mist and fog?
We speak of fog when the horizontal visibility is less than 1000 meters.
When a horizontal visibility is between 1,000 and 5,000 meters, then we talk about spray.
In general, reduced visibility when the air is saturated with water vapor, but also intense sleet can be the cause of reduced visibility. It is the cooling of the air which is responsible for the formation of mist.
A first form of mist occurs in a region of high air pressure, when there is no cloudiness and the nights are fresh. Temperatures during the night drop dramatically by unhindered radiation of heat from the earth. Since cold air can hold less water vapor than warm air, the water vapor condenses on strong cooling and creates fine water droplets. First come rushing to near wetlands such as swamps, ponds or watercourses. If the cooling continues, also the mist spreads over other areas. This type of fog is called radiation fog.

Hello John,
Fog can cause trouble to traffic but it can also give great beauty to a photo. The grey background, hiding everything except the nearest trees, creates a quiet and peaceful atmosphere and makes a perfect complement to the green meadow. You have balanced the composition nicely according to the rule of thirds. The sheep adorn the view beautifully. Only one out of seven doesn't keep its eyes on you. Maybe it was too far away too hear you, or maybe it couldn't see you through the fog.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi John,
Very nice foggy scene from the field. I like the atmosphere and the funny sheep. Well taken.

Daniel

Hello, John!

The fog also looks very nice in this photo, with the silhouettes of the trees in the background, and the sheep and grass with more vivid colors giving very good depth to the composition! Wonderful job!

Hello John,

We are neighbors again! I like this picture very much, those sheep a posing posing for you on it. Very interesting, I should also try to take foggy pictures.

All the bests,
Barnabas

Good evening John,
As stated before, it is much more difficult to take a decent photo under fog. Yet, you masterfully managed a fine photo with at least 5 sheep from the herd were looking at you while in action.
Clear sight through of the naked trees.
My best regards,
Ike

Hello John,
A very evocative capture of a foggy winter's day. All bar one of the sheep seem very interested in the photographer who has come to relieve the tedium of grazing. Excellent management of the low light conditions. Lovely contrast between the grassy foreground and the fog shrouded background.

Büyük Usta,
Koyunlar özellikle sanki size poz vermişler.
Havanın pusluluğu gizemli bir ortam yaratmış.
Ustaca çekilmiş fotoğraf.
Tebrikler.

Hi John.
Beautiful country image, with the group of sheep that seem to look at you with attention, I love the beautiful graphics, which brings the line of trees, glimpsing in the fog.
Good lighting management and superb sharpness.
Very well done. My congratulations.
All the best and have a good day.
Luis.

Hi John,

The fog is giving a quiet atmosphere to the scene. The trees are framing well the field. The point of view is showing the detaild of the sheeps. Have a nice day.

Hallo John,

Heel mooi gedaan!
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi John Sir,

Very good image but I especially enjoyed that all the sheeps are looking at you except the last one. Nice mysty atmosphere behind. It would have been a great image if myst was not here.

Hi John,
A good photo taken with foggy weather, good result with silhouettes of trees and of course sheep in the green field.

Hi John
more fog, this is very cool indeed.
love the tall trees on the left, they grab my attention just as much as the sheep and the fog do.
and i like the atmosphere the most. funny to have the sheep looking directly at you :)

Heerlijk eenvoudig en puur. Opnieuw een knappe foto, John. Mooi dat de schapen allemaal jouw kant op kijken.

Hello dear friend a nd have a nice time
and a happy new day and evening
romantic scenery with the sheep lost in fog
unfortunately the weather is too bad
here in Greece and the temperture minus-15
I like the way they are looking towards
te photographer
welldone and wellseen
regards
Costantino

Hello John,

Well thank you for the technical notes which accompanied your photograph. I know that I use mist and fog intermittently!

It would appear that the sheep have noticed you.
Perhaps you were the first thing that they had been able to see in the fog!

I do like such scenes; they create a mood all of their own and prove that sunlight isn't necessary for a good shot. There is always a hint of mystery!

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
a moody and intriguing picture that has a dual character, it's natural and graphic at the same time. I like the distribution and the response of the sheep, most of them are returning our stare:) I also like the definition of the setting by the green meadow and the silhouetted trees. You got a great effect with the thin fog getting denser towards the background. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

Hello John,
It looks like the sheep were curious about you, or they had been well trained to pose for a camera. It is a lovely, peaceful image.
Regards,
MT

Dag John
Een mooi taallesje over “mist” en “fog” bij dit fraaie plaatjes van de schaapjes in de mist of in de nevel.
Prachtig sfeervol werk.
Groet uit een zonnig maar koud Haarlem. Een perfecte winterdag.
Groet Rob

Dear John,

Whenever I see a beautiful atmospheric photo like this, I think of listening to Bach "Sheep May Safely Graze". The scene is tranquil and very beautiful.

Warm regards, John,

Bulent

Regards,Danos

hello dear
It's a beautiful fogy day. I love the fog surrounded by green grounds in the foreground and the neutral background.good looking image
TFs

Dear John,
this is so pretty! The fog is quite dense and I admire your exposition here -we can well see the silhouettes of the trees and the sheep of course. The seem to be standing out of the background. They are staring at you :)
Lovely scene, very well done!!!
M

Greetings John,

Maybe it is the maths teacher in me, but something responds to the 7 sheep - a nice solid prime number. From the sheep in the front right, they seem to fan out in a tree diagram with two sheet at the next distance away. then four at the farthest. The doubling also appeals to my sense of orderly composition. Lovely work on the trees in the mist (and I won't even start on the THREE large trees to the left ;) ). Nice work, Iain.

Hallo John!
An incredible atmospheric photo, a photographic work of art. It's fascinating how the landscape disappears in the fog. Also the absence of all "screaming" colours here is wonderful and captivating. I like this one very much!
Thank you for the informative note!
Greetings from still cold and snowy Siegen!
Frank

Hello John

The fog certainly creates a nice mood here. It looks as all the sheep are staring at you, expecting you to bring some food. The trees that disappears into the fog makes a nice backdrop for the scene. Lovely work:) TFS.

Greetings, Erling

Ciao John
sei riuscito ad ottenere l'attenzione di tutte le pecore!!!
Lo sfondo nebbioso crea un'atmosfera particolare in questo paesaggio di campagna.
Saluti
Carlo

All animals pay attention when you're near John, they are looking at the master at work. This is a lovely capture with lots of atmosphere...

Hi John
A peaceful shot on a cold foggy day. I love the way the fog softens everything creating some fabulous depth to this. Perfect composition, you couldn't have placed those curious sheep any better, I think they are putting on the wool now and must be quite warm there. This capture has a really lovely feel to it.......
Congrats
Best wishes
