Thank for your visit.

During a small visit to these nice city but max 100 years old, see further in my notes.

History 100 years ago, you can see a work shop picture from this place hundred year ago, these picture can you find beside the building .

The Battle of Leuven began on August 4, 1914, when the Germans invaded Belgium. The twentieth Leuven was occupied. The occupation was peaceful expired. Or so it seemed. On August 25, the message went around that British and Belgian soldiers were on the move. Rockets fired - at one time were -. According to German soldiers Immediately afterwards there would be shot from some houses on the German troops, even from hotels where Germans were staying. The soldiers insisted that houses inside, shot down all who were they armed and set the houses on fire. The unrest lasted for several days, until the people had to leave, and was fired on 29 August. Town of Leuven Large areas around the station and in the centre were reduced to ashes. Only the town hall was protected. The hands of Professor Louis Scharpé near the Great Beguines could continue senseless destruction safeguarded. The result of the arson: 1081 houses were completely destroyed and 209 civilians were killed, including twenty women, six clerics, eleven children (one to six months) and three octogenarians.

Leuven today.
Leuven is a city and municipality in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. It's centrally located capital of this province and also the capital of the administrative and judicial district of Leuven. Leuven has an area of 5663 ha, has about 97,000 inhabitants (2013) and lies on the River Dyle.
Leuven is famous as the location of the “Katholieke Universiteit” Leuven, the oldest university in the Low Countries, the multinational Anheuser-Busch InBev (historic brewery Artois, afterwards also Interbrew and InBev called), the Farmers' Union and the University Hospital “Gasthuisberg”. Also several spin-offs of the KU Leuven, such as IMEC or Bio-Incubator, located in the city.
Because of the centuries-long presence of both the Artois brewery as student life Leuven is also called the beer capital of Flanders / Belgium called.

Hello John, I am a bit confused reading your note. Leuven 100 years old?? I was twice in this charming city. The City Hall in Leuven is the most beuatiful City Hall I have ever seen and the Beguinage is very nice too. These building in your photo are fine too. And the University is old and famous, of course. You probably mean that the town was destroyed and rebuilt. Looking like this, Warsaw is even younger, it is 70 years old, as was totally destroyed in the II WW and rebuilt. The wars are mad. Will they ever end?

Regards MAlgo

Buon inizio settimana
Carlo

Hello John,

When you see the beauty and the complications of such buildings, you wonder how anyone went about designing them!
You have photographed them at a most appropriate time when the shadows are long and the light is softer.
A very pleasing, sharp exposure, with a composition that leads naturally across the scene.

Have a lovely day.
Thank you for this,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
your picture is very attractive and, despite the tranquility of the area portrayed, it has quite a dramatic atmosphere due to the shadows, the clouds, the contrasts. An extraordinary cityscape, presented with excellent sharpness and colour management. It was theatre of another tragic war experience 100 years ago, the workshop picture is very useful. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

Hello John,
It really marvellous how many Belgian cities were reconstructed after the First World War to look virtually the same as before. This fine composition shows us the magnificent results in Leuven. A well framed image benefiting from an agreeable ambient light. Superb colours and clarity.

Hi John
Some difference between 100 years ago and today, how great to see that today its a centre of architectural beauty and not ruins. I really like that red brick building and its ornate roofs, it has a great sense of majesty about it. Great sky and light too.
Cheers
Noel

Hello John,

This is an image of great quality to present us this wonderful and rich architecture. The framing is well done and the cloudy sky is superb.

Hi John,

The principle of the thirds is respected, the sky, the buildings and the street. The point of view is showing the details of the architecture of the buildings. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi John,
Fine scene with that spectacular architecture of any city of Flanders or Wallon. I like the colors and the beautiful clouds. Well taken.

Bonjour John,

Une belle image de très grande qualité. Le point idéal pour mettre en vedette ce superbe immeuble sur le coin de la rue. La lumière est superbe et fait bien ressortir tous les détails. Le ciel est magique.

Hello John,
As always a very well composed photo. The richly ornamented buildings are beautiful and the clouds are nicely shaped. You framed the view in an amusing way by balancing the tree to the right against the shade on the left side.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello John,

Beautiful composition and an well position where you shoot this historical monument with background of deep blue sky and white clouds made the image more vivid and sharped. Very nicely captured.

Hi John,

Would it be too obvious to point out that a lot has changed over the past 100 years? :) Sure has been a nice renovation, or I guess a better description would be "renaissance." You've framed a delightful section of the city with these two buildings, each one having distinct characteristics, but appear as brothers sitting side by side. Great colors to compliment the blue sky above, and the clouds add another level of interest and help fill the space. The couple of people also give a nice touch of human spirit to the scenery. As always, a fine blend of style and form. Enjoy the new day and soak up some of that sunshine. :) All the best.

Friendly wishes,

Jason

Dag John,
Of laat mijn geheugen me zodanig in de steek ?
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi John

Amazing transformation through 100 years era, John.
The two pic.s show the difference of war and peace.
The archi.-design of red and white bricks, made a beautiful sight on the magnificent edifice with the high tower, though I reckon every house a some sort of a turret.
Charmning ands well applied photo.
Good evening,

Hi John.
A splendid picture of these beautiful buildings, the image of the WS, is terrifying and comparison is impossible, it is certainly one of the many European cities that have risen from its ruins.
Very good color, which gives much strength to the image.
Superb light management, sharpness is also perfect to enjoy the details of the beautiful facades.
Very well seen and well taken.
Magnificent the article.

Fine view of the baroque Leuven classical architecture with the light color trims contrasting with the earth tones. Very ornate details in the design, especially the tall corner tower.

I never have been in Leuven - we say Löwen - but I think on my next visit in Belgium it will be one of the destinations I'll visit. What a magnificent and well-kept architecture!
