[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hanoi style cyclo's have a wide, cushioned seat up front and provide shelter from the sweltering sun, with always plenty of plastic ready for expected or unexpected showerstorms. Comfort first.

Cyclo's provide small scale, local and pedal-driven public transportation all over large parts of China and South-East Asia. Traditionally they are quite cheap. Cyclo drivers traditionally work hard for meagre wages.

These days you don't find them that much anymore. More people have their own motorbikes to ride. In some places the remaining cyclo's got an extra layer of paint and are now used for tourists.

It's a fun way to go sightseeing, especially if you aren't that mobile, for people who are older or travel with small kids or just for the sake of it.

Still, I sometimes miss the cyclo's of old. Surely the cyclo drivers back then can't all be working in tourism now. Where have they gone now? How do they make a living now?

---

THIS PICTURE is a kind of follow-up shot to my previous "too darn hot" picture, shot from the same 4th or 5th floor coffee shop terrace in Hanoi.

For those who know the basic lay-out of the city, it's just north from Hoan Kiem Lake and very much the centre of things.

The heat is crazy, but this cyclo driver keeps cruising for tourists.

Hello Benny,

It's a most attractive cycle, proudly linking so much red with its driver!
It's nicely angled in your frame, dominating attention and contrasting well with the grey b/g.

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

une capture interessante, comme une évocation d'un temps passé nostalgique avec ce cyclo vide. Beau contraste de couleurs

Hi Benny
Irresistible to a photographer!
This is sure a stunning capture, the dark pavement makes for a wonderful contrast against the rich reds. This reminds me of how great Kodachrome film was, the way it handled the colours, especially red. This of course is digital, but as close to a colour slide on Kodachrome as I could wish for. Excellent capture, Congrats
Best regards

Hi Benny,
High viewpoint adds originality and gives uniform asphalt background. Red on dark grey looks really good. Green hat is an interesting detail.

Hallo Benny,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello Benny,

I like this minimalism, mainly the contrast between the dull asphalt and the vivid T-shirt of the man.

Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Benny,

A good downward pov. Seeing as the driver has his back to us anyway, I don't see any real need to have his shadowed face more clearly visible. Excellent sharpness and the red shirt is nicely offset by the grey asphalt. Tfs!

Hi Benny
first off, the photo is excellent...do you eat during your meals or just wait for a good photo opp hahaha. the higher POV really works well, as do the red and darker contrasts. and we see that green army style hat again. I remember once taking a rickshaw in India...i have NEVER felt SO bad for someone in my life. The young skinny man was sweating like CRAZY, going uphill etc....I gave him a large tip, hopefully that made his day. cheers
Craig

Hi Benny,
Well seen, good angle and colors contrast, perfect sharpness, tfs.

Hello Benny,
I gave a smiley to the last one from that café so I will have to give one now (and to the uncredited song title reference to Sam & Dave). As with the other photo more details could be seen if you had lightened the shadows, but maybe the impact of the heat would not have been felt the same way. I guess the ground is "naturally desaturated" and not a product of PP.
Regards,
Gert

Hallo Benny,

Goed foto werk, bedankt.

Groetjes uit Oos-Vlaanderen,

Hi dear Benny

If I am not mistaken, Cyclos in Hanoi has become modern and more comfortable to sit, compared with 10 years ago. But driver's hut is very classic and so nostalgic too. Great strret life shot for the citizen's life.

All the best and have a good day! Takero

Hi Benny,a second pic from the same place of one of your last, minimalistic and truly lovely, showing the red ciclo-taxi in a perfect sharpness despite the distance, well done! Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Benny,
I like this rather minimalist photo with red on dark grey. A cyclo would be a great way to see the city at a slow pace. 👍🏻👍🏻
Regards,
MT

Very striking choice of colour contrast in this photo.
I really am fan of particularly red and how it works with its surroundings.
Excellent sharpness in this photo

Hi again

We can't miss him, the red hues glow among the grey of the road. Looking for some people to earn his life.
Cheers
