What I have found specially attractive in the south of China is that there are so many ethnic minority groups still preserving their culture, the language, religion and crafts. It is specially visible in Yunnan province but I saw also in Hunan.

Miao ethnic group has a population of almost nine millions which is larger than most of minority groups in China. After immigration in a long history, today they live mainly in Guizhou, Yunnan, Hunan, Hubei, Hainan Provinces and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Prefecture. They are divided into several branches, such as Black Hmong, White Hmong. They are very skilled at handicrafts, such as embroidering, weaving, paper-cutting, batik, and jewelry casting. The Miao embroidery and silver jewelry are delicate and beautiful. From hats, collars, and cuffs to skirts and baby carriers, the patterns on their clothes are extremely colorful, complicated but with clean lines. Girls of around seven will learn embroidering from mothers and sisters, and when they become teenagers, they are quite deft.
This girl posed for someone else, I stole a picture.
Isn't she a beauty?

Benny is probably right. In a such a tourist place like Fenghuang, one can rent a costume for a photo. Probably I could also be Miao girl (hahaha). But the costume is authentic and she is Chinese and posed nicely. In a Workshop a group of the girls who offer renting of costumes. I can't tell if they are Han or Miao.

Bonjour, chère Malgo,
Je suis heureux de voir que les traditions ne se perdent pas en contemplant ce très beau costume régional.
Quel travail et quel honneur pour la personne qui porte ce vêtement.
Sujet très bien présenté.
Amitiés.
Philippe

Wonderful photo! I lived in China for a year and am somewhat familiar with the story of the Miao, but only ever saw their traditional costume in a museum. I'm glad to know they are still preserving their heritage and way of life. Great colors and composition on the stone steps. The background adds character and contrast to the woman's outfit. Thanks for sharing!

Hello Malgo,
Stealing, surely not:-) Excellent capture of this attractive young lady. Dressed in her traditional costume, she looks superb against the stone steps. Perfect framing.

Namaste Malgo,

A magnificent close up view of this young lady, very nicely captured with excellent sharpness and wonderful color contrast, I like this vertical frame which shows her perfectly.

my warm regards,

swapankumarroy

Nice candid portrait, sneaking into someone else's foto session...that's never a problem in China :)

On the other hand: this is defintely NOT A MIAO GIRL! You can rent these traditional outfits for foto sessions and the (Han) Chinese love that. Depending on how you pay you can rent the jewellery too.

Still, being a tourist or not, she is beautiful.

Benny

Hello Malgo,
It doesn't matter much which ethnic group this woman belongs to. She looks nice in any case and the dress and all that goes with it looks fantastic. The setting with the staircase is also nice and is probably regularly picked for this kind of photos. The pleasant light helped you to a perfect exposure.
Kind regards,
Gert

Amicalement

Serge

Hello dear Malgorzata and have a nice time
and a happy new day

dress?i generally love photos like this one
perfect framing
the lady looks superb

Hello Malgo,
Your picture reminds me of a place in China with Tibetan inhabitants. There Chinese tourists also rented clothes to take pictures. Of course a complete different kind of clothes.
Yes, she's very beautiful.
The pretty and colourful clothes and the many decorations opposite the rough stones of the staircase and the wall. What a sight!
Best regards, Paul

Hello Malgo,
I like traditional clothes, and this outfit is beautiful. There are so many intricate details, and the silver jewelry and headpiece make the overall look even more spectacular. I also like the background. As you wrote, maybe this girl rented the costume, but she is still Chinese, and her ancestors might have actually worn clothes like this. :-)

Ciao Margherituccia
continuo a pensare che il tuo viaggio sia stato veramente interessante, hai visto cose rare e preziose.
Queste minoranze etniche fanno parte di una lunga storia, troppo spesso dimenticata, ma forse è un bene per la loro comunità.
Bellissimo costume e bellissime foto.
Saluti
Carlo

Hi dear Malgo

Great portrait for this ethnical minority girl, so attractive to see. As you see, I like ethnical people so much, this area is my potential next destination.

All the best and have a good day! Takero

Good morning Malgo,

Hello Malgo,

I don't think I have been to Hunan province so it's interesting to see what I missed! The colorful traditional costume worn by the woman is eyecatching. Good sharpness and framing. Tfs!

Hi Malgo
yes, I agree with you and Benny, you can never really be sure about these people posing for photos in traditional outfits.
I always have my concerns. But its also the norm now when travelling, to see such things. Its very common to see this in Peru, which I'm sure you're aware of as well, where they make you pay for such a photo.

well, whether she is real or not, its still a lovely and vibrant outfit, and makes for a good memory photo. cheers
Craig

Hallo Malgo,
fantastische Farben, wunderschöne Tracht, gute Info, gut gemacht!
Viele Grüße
Wolfgang

Bonjour Malgo,
What a beautiful portrait ! The bright colours and the sophisticated patterns and jewelly contrast beautifully with the rustic background.
She chose the right place to pose on these steps . It makes an excellent composition.
One has to admire the handicraft !
Looking at WS1, I suppose that girl is wearing a hired costume, just for the photo ! Nice experience.
TFS and have a good weekend.
Marie-Louise.

Hello Malgo,
What a beautiful and colorful dress and look at all that precious metal wrought ornately. Thanks for stealing the photo, you did well!

Ale juz mnie to tak bardzo nie przejmuje, najwazniejsze ze w ogole moge cos robic. Ciesze sie z malych rzeczy.
Jakos tez podroze zaczynaja mnie meczyc. Moze gdybym podrozowal sam byloby inaczej...
Pozdrawiam serdecznie,
