Dong Van - To Vietnam’s final frontier

The landscapes in the far north of the country were often stunning but due to the cloudy sky and the foggy weather I failed to take really nice pictures.
Nevertheless, I’d like to show some of these beautiful landscapes for those who are interested.
See also the workshops.

All the pictures here are taken in the vicinity of Dong Van in the province of Ha Giang.

The title of the picture comes from the description of this province in guidebooks. It’s a much less visited part of the country. But don’t expect to be the only one in Dong Van. During the day it’s possible to visit remote areas in this large province where you won’t find that many foreign visitors but in the evening they’re all gathered together in the few eateries and cafes of Dong Van.
Dong Van has become the main place to stay for foreign visitors and there are some excellent eateries.
However, when comparing it with Sapa and other parts of the country, then the term 'last frontier' seems to be properly placed.

The extreme north of Vietnam near the Chinese border has amazing landscapes of limestone pinnacles and granite outcrops and despite the dark weather this was the highlight of my trip.

Hallo Paul,
Lars

Hello Paul,
I think all three photos would have done well as main uploads. This may be the most stunning scenery while the others have other nice attractions such as roads, houses and people. This one makes me think of Halong Bay without the water. It is a strange and stunning landscape and the haze in the distance creates a fascinating atmosphere.
Kind regards,
Gert

Dag Paul,

Amicalement

Serge

Hello, Paul!

The repetition of the peaks with different tones are very interesting and give very good depth to the image! Incredible and breathtaking landscape, captured with excellent colors and sharpness! Wonderful composition!

Ciao Paul, fascinating mountain landscape, magic atmosphere, wonderful soft colors and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Wow, the landscape is amazing, great mountains and fantastic layers of mountain ranges, a splendid photo

Salut Paul,
Bel effet avec cette brume et ces pics sur plusieurs plans successifs, c'est bien cadré et présenté.

An impressive high terrain scenery, Paul.
The land is an amazing "jagged" mountains, and the picture has scale and depth despite the mist/fog that prevailed.
Good evening,
Ike

Hello Paul, I saw all five pictures :). I find them all wonderful. The landscape with these mountains is a bit similar to Guilin. Fantastic view of all these layers, more and more hazy. The road seems a bit scary. The rocks in one of the Workshops are similar to these in Stone Forest. But it is so close to Kunming in Yunnan. Awesome scenery and the mist gave it mysterious atmosphere. I was thinking about going to Ban Gioc Waterfalls on the Chinese-Vietnamese border, in the direction to Nanning, but there was not time for it. I wonder if you were there.

Kind regrads MAlgo

Bonjour Paul ,
Ca aurait sans doute été mieux sous le soleil , mais ce paysage de pics boisés est tout à fait remarquable , dans cette atmosphère bruleuse pleine de mystère ;

Ciao Paul
Saluti
Carlo

Hello Paul,

beautiful image of these mountains of Vietnam, I like the different shapes we can see here, the foggy atmosphere helps to create an interesting composition, well done,
Best regards,

Sergio

Hi Paul
wow, your WS photos offer up some pretty amazing views.
the people who live here are so lucky but probably take for granted how beautiful the local area is.

I'll have to put this place on my to visit list for sure.
especially if it isn't visited as much as other areas.
love the rustic nature, the harsh landscapes, it would be impossible to navigate these mountains on foot I would think. beautiful atmosphere you captured. cheers

paul good evening - hello..this so soft lite light really adds to this scene of choice!beautiful capture! tfs dale

Hello Paul.
Impressive mountain range, with very toothed summits, I like the perspective of sequence in several planes in the distance, very nice to see that the greenery covers everything.
Magnificent composition and color.
Excellent brightness and sharpness.
Well done. I love the photo.
Enjoy a good week.
Very best regards.
Luis.

P.S. I'll tell you that the Oslo Opera gives the feeling that comes from the sea, in fact the front pavement descends to the sea, and is submerged in it, but it is connected to land by an area and is very close to the center of the city .

Hello Paul, very good view of these interesting mountains, very well composed and captured in this good and beautiful photograph. An interesting image, with good sharpness, depth, light, color and quality. Very good and beautiful work perfectly done, my congratulations my friend. Thank you for sharing this interesting work.

Good night and happy week.
All the best from the south of Spain.
Angel.

Hello Paul,

Missed this one. The scenery is reminiscent of Yangshuo in southern China,or Krabi in Thailand, with the wonderful overlapping karst formations. Tfs!

paul

yes, you had to deal with the bad weather, anyway you got a marvelous view with the repetition of shapes of these fabulous mountains.
mass tourism is curious, my state has 200,000 square km, is very, very beautiful and in some aspects we have tourists a lot only in iguassu falls, the rest of the state is "the last frontier" haha.

hugs

jorge
