Another from Mongolia. 2006 is an auspicious year in Mongolian history. It marks the 800th Anniversary of the Great Mongolian State and will be honored by a string of nationwide celebrations that will last for the whole of the year.

A featured part of the festivities will be the Cavalry Ride. The five-hundred-man cavalry is comprised entirely of soldiers and has been made possible thanks to cooperation from the Mongolian Ministry of Defense. As the cavalry emerges out of the grassland steppe in a cloud of dust, a fearsome spectacle is relived. The sight of the procession of soldiers marching in a straight line reminds us of Genghis Khan's mighty army.

What a great action picture! The timing, the location and the motion are all perfect. Thank you...Kiet

Hi Benjamin. This really caught my eye. I think the lighting was great and the positioning of the 2 front riders perfect.

I also like all that dust they were kicking up, it created a neat tan haze.

Well done!

Hi Benjamin,
wonderful shot of this soldiers. I like the sharp details of their wear as I like the action. The dynamism of the photo is also amplified by the dust in the air that is paritally hiding the soldiers behind. Wonderful scene!
Have a nice day,

Hi Benjamin
this is a superb shot. Great framing, a nice moment of capture and good colours. The light is very strong and the rider to the left has an underexposed face. But this is minor as the scene you've captured is awesome. Very well done.

Salut,
Vincenzo

The image yesterday was wonderful in its detail but somethign off puttign about the framing, (IMO), but this is simply wonderful, the light, the details, the motion and the horseman in the wonderful dusty background.
EXcellent work Ben

Hi Benjamin,

Extraordinary shot, full of energy but dangerous to fill your sensor with dust...

The effect of the forefront cavaliers, sharp and colourful over the faded ones, is stunning and possess a cinematographic quality.

Well done!

Hi again Benjamin,
Very powerful shot. The colors the dust the noise the atmosphere...and you froze the horses in air.
With their uniform this isn't a horse race, but a battle. This matches any still from the battle movies.
Cheers,
CheukHin

What a nice picture!! What a moviment!! and colors!

and I notice that horses are very small, en look so big!

Livia

Hi Ben.,
It looks like a movie picture. Well done. 1/350 is not so fast and the result is great. DOF is also fine. Good choice of lens and speed. Cheers.
Michel

Oh wow! What a shot! Looks like a scene from a movie. Colours, dymanism, focus, and especially this dust... Excellent!

Cheers
Alexander

This is such a great action shot, so full of the pride and spirit of the cavalry. I love how you've shot it at just the right moment to get the horse's hooves off the ground. The colors of the clothing really stand out in all that beige and brown. I think this looks like a wonderful work of art, a painting hanging in a fine museum. Well done, a spectacular job!

Bonjour Benjamin,
Excellent cliché tout en vigueur, en mouvements intenses. L'action rude est très bien traduite. Très beau cadrage et composition réussie parfaitement. Ce doit être extraordinaire d'assister à de tels spectacles.
Amicalement

Stunning shot. Looks like a still from a movie. The dust and haze create quite an ambience for this superb action shot. You have a very impressive gallery Benjamin.

Excellent picture capturing the real spirit of "great men on little horses"... I particularly like the cropping, and the fact that no dust obscures the lead horse. THIS is a picture that really brings history to life!

Hi Ben,
What a great shot, with the horseriders coming out of the dust. Great color throughout, and nice contrast. Perhaps you could correct however the shadows on the guys' faces.
Raluca

My eyes wish for a less square frame, but not much problem with it anyway. The contrast is perfect between the dusty low-lighted background , giving depth to the image (especially as it's more compact from the squarish frame) and the foreground, where everything participates to give a great energy to their gallop. Colors, handgrips, off-grounded hoofs. Marvelous moment, and marvelous compo!

What to say?
This is absolutely excellent!

Vlado

Hi Benjamin, a masterpiece there ! First time i saw it and what a pleasure. So exotic picture from mongolia, contrasts are excellent but the best is the action you fixed when shooting.

This photo is cinematic in its depiction of the energy of the moment. The haze of the sand kicked up by the horses, and the more leisurely progress of the group in the background, also contribute to the dynamic quality of this superb photo. My visit to Mongolia was not during Nadaam; I would have enjoyed watching this scene. Stimulating that sense of wishing to be there is yet another mark of an excellent photo. Congratulations!

A fabulous shot, Ben - it looks just like those paintings of the horsemen that you see in Mongolia. Perfect timing and composition. I am not sure whether the separation between the foreground horsemen and those in the background is due to just the dust haze or whether you have partially desaturated the background - either way it is an effect that really enhances this image. Cheers . . . David

Hello Benjamin,

I can only join the chorus of admirers of this astonishing action photo, which I plan to adopt as one of my "favorites." The composition, exposure, light, timing are all sensational. The succinct, but infomative note is very helpful as well.

You made a comment about my lectures on cruises. I am a professor of physics, but I also do art and archaeology. It is mostly the latter two areas of expertise that have brought invitations to speak on cruises, which as a professor of physics, I would never be able to afford. Take a look at my "Intro."

But this photo of the Mongolian horsemen, is truly one of the finest shots I've seen on TE.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Olá Ben, there are days in our life that are unique and remembered for a long time. That's what I feel in this 5th of August of 2006 of yours. This seems to have been an incredible festival and you are showing us a very interesting series of it. It reminds me my experience in the Camel fair in India, from which I didn't even start a series.
Since this successful one was in your featured photos, I decided to make a visit and contribute so it may be reach some kind of record... :))))

Hi Benjamin,
Very powerful shot. The colors the dust the noise the atmosphere...and you froze the horses in air.
With their uniform this isn't a horse race, but a battle. This matches any still from the battle movies.

Hello Ben,
this shot full of dynamism is really spectacular. The timing and exposure are perfect and the dof with the riders covered partially by the dust is fantastic and greatly contrasting with those in the fg.
Very well done!

Hello Benjamin
Very good success in this composition.
A n interesting historical scene like a high class film scenery.
Very good contrast with the two main subjects in front with the dust in background.
Cheers.

perfect composition! the only thing i can critique is the framing, it could be better, but the whole rest (colors, capture and sharpness etc.)is flawless!
p.s. the first horse looks as if it was going to fall, doesn't it?

Hi Benjamin,

One of the most spectacular picture of your gallery. Colorful and a lot of actions in this one.

Jean-Pierre

It strikes me that Asian men are usually somewhat shorter than their Western European and American counterparts. Here, these guys actually look taller than their horses! These must by some county fair ponies or something... they certainly don't look 16 hands high at the shoulders!

Sorry for choosing this but it really stands out. A fantastic carnival of movement and power. This is really a cracking shot Benjamin, one of the best I have seen on TE. Bravo.

To be critical, I think it is a touch too saturated, and I would have liked if the image was a bit wider, especially to the left...

I understand that this is a picture that you posted long ago, but it pulls my attention, because it is so great! The Mongolian riders are so well captured and isolated. All the horses and riders behind are diffused by the dust. It is a great pleasure to look at this picture.
