Mumbai - Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) is a historic railway station in Mumbai and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Designed by Frederick William Stevens, an English architectural engineer who worked for the British colonial government in India, this station was built in 1887.

Today CSMT is one of the busiest railway stations in India. It serves as a terminal for long-distance trains and also for commuter trains.
BTW, there are many railway stations in Mumbai.

Previously (in a WS) I have already shown some pictures of its interior (the hall with the ticket offices).
Its old name was Victoria Terminus since it was built to commemorate the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria.

A bit to my surprise this station seems to be the most photographed building after the Taj Mahal (in Agra).

Hi Paul

A charming hybrid mix of Victorian and Indian architecture at left, with the red bus adding a great warm cold color contrast with the blue sky. Good sharpness & framing. Tfs!

Hello Paul,
Now you have added another photo to the millions already taken of this building. ;-) But it's a nice one with fine light, and the bus and taxis play important roles for the composition. The architecture is quite fantastic and I remember from my first visit to Bombay how this area made me feel as if I was back in London. Only the heat and smells were definitely non-English. As far as I remember the Victoria Terminus (so much easier to remember and pronounce) was one of the places of the terrorist attack in 2008.
Kind regards,

Bonjour, cher Paul,
C'est spectaculaire. Merci de nous faire profiter de ces belles images;

Good morning Paul,
Yet one more sight of monumental buildings in Mumbai and surprising sight for being a RR station. It architecture's details show a mix of India style and western influence, IMHO.
A fine take with the street action included.

Have a nice sunday,

Hallo Paul,
Mooi werk!

Hi Paul
Nice series of photos showing this building from various angles but with similar vehicles in the foreground which complete the transportation theme. In this one tt almost feels as if you were standing on the road, in the middle of action.
The red bus is a good focal point.
Best wishes

Dag paul,

Vijf mooie foto's in totaal.
Mooi foto werk, bedankt.

Prettige zondag verder,

Ciao Paul, great view of fantastic city, excellent clarity, wondeful colors and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hello Paul,
Interesting view of historic railway station in Mumbai.
I like good composition and beautiful colours.
Thank you for informative note.
Well done, fine presentation.

Ciao Paul

Hi Paul,
It is very famous station and one of the busiest in the world. So no wonder it is also frequently photographed. Style is very British, and I guess the scale is bigger than on any station in Britain. That little red bus looks special.

Hello Paul,
On thumbnail I was thinking it's a scene from London. But isn't .
Very good observed and captured. Perfect layout, sharpness and ligth management. Interesting and usefull notes.
TFS and best regards

Hello Paul,

Magnificent building and the mastery presentation. It looks fantastic in the day and in the night. I like also the red buses. Strange that the traffic is here so low. I remember Mumbai as very chaotic in the streets (and dirty). here it looks "civilized".

Have a nice day

Bonjour Paul

Hi Paul
first off, no i didn't get your email, not sure what happened there. I'll take a look in my junk folder.

looking at your India series, I have to say that I miss this country. Sometimes it may be stressful here with food, illness, travel, crowdedness, but overall i wish I could go back again.

another great subject, and who knew it was photographed so frequently. I had no idea. It must take forever to build a beast like this. love seeing the colourful Indian bus, they scare me by the way haha. wonderful subject, and everyday life shot. cheers

Hello Paul.
Impressive building for Central Railway Station, but it seems a palace or an old and elegant University, it is a sensational POV that shows us in detail this beautiful and sumptuous building.
Fantastic photos in the WS.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; they are all perfectly realized factors, in this beautiful image.
Well done. I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.

Bonsoir Paul,

Hi Paul,
it is not surprising that people want to photograph it because it is so attractive but it is surprising because I think I see a picture of it for the first time in my life.
But I suppose it just depends who you are a friend with.
Also the population of India is so high that anything what is popular in this country may be the most photographed by default.
Nice architecture with two cabs and an old stylish bus in the foreground.
Great reportage,

Hello Paul,
nice the view of the building of the impressive and huge railway station with the passing by cars and buses to add scale in the scene.
A really beautiful and unique building of the late of the 19th century.

Hello Paul, very good view of this interesting building, very well composed and captured in this good and beautiful picture. An interesting image, with good sharpness, depth, light, color and quality. Great and beautiful work perfectly done, my congratulations mate. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.

Good night and happy beginning of the week.
All the best from the south of Spain.
