I found interesting what Paul wrote about the old big Nandi in Chamundi Hill. After cleaning it looks quite new. Indeed, I remember it all black and looking as covered in oil. I checked my old archive(2004) and I found some pictures of the statue and of the Chamundeshwari Temple as well.

I hope that Paul and Gert will find this comparison interesting.

Here another view. It could be perhaps better as the main post, but I liked the monkey.

Entrance to the Chamundeshwari Temple.

Hello Malgo, my neighbour !
Another topclass capture from Mysore.
Perfect pov and sharpness. Allready 14 years old but in wonderfull condition.
Nice this cute monkey in the foreground, focused to something else !
TFS and best regards

Hello Malgo,
Today we are neighbours on the site, and even in our thoughts. ;-)
How nice of you to dig out this photo from your archive. Here the nandi is as black as I remember it. Maybe the WS photo shows more of it, and its cultural context, but the monkey is so well placed in the foreground and also tells us of the natural environment on the hillside. I don't remember what photos I have from this place, but in any case it's much more complicated to retrieve my old scans.
Kind regards,

Ciao Malgo,it's interesting to compare the big statue betweeen some years ago and now,for me your version is better, the colors and the decorations are lovely! 2 excellent WS too showing different view from the temple, well done! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano. There aren't beaches in my new trip, take a look in your hole in your map of visited countries in Asia to understand where i go...ehehe..ciao!

Hello Malgo,
The monkey and the Nandi together exemplify India and its culture. Excellent capture, well framed with very good colours and clarity.

Ciao Malgo

Une très belle composition ressortie de tes archives qui doivent être très volumineuses tellement tu as voyagé partout dans le monde. Le moment est très beau ainsi que le singe.

Hello Malgo,

The temple is the most what I know it of the three picture.
But your main picture with the monkey is a nice picture.
Light and colours are pleasant.
Sharpness and clarity of the pictures
Very well done, TFS.

Best regards,

Hello Malgo,
Yes, this is the black nandi of Chamundi Hill.
So in 2004 it was still black. I don't have an idea when it has been cleaned ... Perhaps they do it regularly now ...
There's another difference with the nandi of today. It seemed to have real eyes in 2004.
Very funny with the monkey on the foreground. It seems to have seen something of great importance. Maybe one of the visitors is eating something :)
Very nice of you and also interesting to make this comparison with my picture.
Best regards, Paul

Hi, Malgo.
A different and special composition, with this contrast between the great sculpture of the Nandi bull and that monkey up on its pedestal.
Magnificent color, which gives great strength to the image.
Very good brightness and perfect sharpness.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.

Hello Malgo,
I’ve seen Paul’s photo as well and the difference between before and after the cleaning is stunning, it looks almost as new now. This is a great photo too, a good close-up and the inclusion of the monkey in the foreground is superb as well.

Hi Malgo,
Interesting view with sculpture and monkey, a good timing to take the view, good contrast between the virtual and the real animal, tfs.

Bonjour, chère Mago,
Cette prise de vue n'a rien perdu de son charme. Et il toujours intéressant de pouvoir comparer différentes époques.
j'aime beaucoup la présence du singe qui semble assurer la garde de cette sculpture géante.

Hello Malgo,

The monkey and the weathered old statue of a cow go well together. Excellent use of a shallow dof with good sharpness on the monkey. Superb graphism of the dark stone sculpture against the lighter sky. Tfs!

Hello Malgo,

Nice monkey portrait.

Best Wishes,

Hello Malgo,
It is nice to compare the then (your photo) and the now (Paul's photo) views of this grand statue. I am happy to see the transformation.

I want to visit southern india some day. nice this main post with nandi and the ape, two of these many symbols of the country.
take care

Dear Emka,
Catching up on your gallery, I find this delightful photo which reminds me of my trip to India some years ago ! I didn't go to Mysore, but I saw many statues of Nandi and many monkeys. Your capture is excellent with the brighter-coloured monkey sitting by the dark bull. So typical.
Thanks for sharing and have a good day.
