Mysore - Devaraja Flower Market

Wandering around the Devaraja Market I took countless pictures in the flower department.
Especially the enormously long garlands caught my attention.
At first I wondered who would buy such long garlands but they are simply cut off at the requested length.

These garlands are used for weddings, festivals and of course in the Hindu temples.
It’s best to visit this flower department in the late afternoon when the fresh flowers have arrived and the bazaar is very lively.

As today it’s a public holiday in Belgium, I can be online at 9 am and post 4 pictures in the workshop.
And as so often, I didn’t know which photo was best suited to show as main picture :)

Hello,
Working with flowers I think is one of the most relaxing and healthy activities a man can do. Great everyday scene, well seen.

Dag Paul,

Goed foto werk, bedankt.

Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John.

ciao Paul,

Amicalement

Serge

Perfect reportage series of photos from the flower market, really very interesting, I wonder how the garlands are bound or intertwined with each other
regards Ryszard

Hi Paul,
That is quite surrising view. I thought he was preparing for a festival or something. But cuttin that to requested length makes sense. Excellent framing. I love the fact that colours of walls match those flowers.

Hello Paul,

The garland of yellow & orange marigold flowers resembles a giant coiled serpent. Good color, sharpness and saturation. The bg orange wall compliments the scene. Tfs!

Hiya Paul

He shows you his perfect work, a garland of alternate yellow and orange flowers to be sold to pilgrims who will decorate some god statues.
Good framing
My best regards

Hallo Paul,
Lars

Hello Paul,

I see your problem!
So many photographs, full of vibrant colours and information!
With all the extras in the w/s, we get a pretty comprehensive guide to the making and selling of flower garlands.
It's a world away from what we know and as such makes a most interesting series.
Your main post is well composed, the long garland of flowers curled like a benign snake and leading us irresistibly to the producer.
The colours are perfectly co-ordinated throughout.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Paul,
Another topclass capture in your gallery from South India taken with very good pov and compo, perfect sharpness and nice bright colors.
Those people are poor but have a great phantasy in case of such simple "artworks" here created with using nice flowers.
TFS and best regards
MESUT ILGIM

Hello Paul, very good picture of this interesting scene of the daily life of the worker with flowers, very well captured in this interesting image, with good sharpness, light, color and quality. A great job perfectly done, my congratulations, my friend. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.

Good night and happy week.
All the best from the south of Spain.
Angel.

Hello Paul, surely the weight of the flowers as they are coiled around on top of each other must squash them?
This is a fascinating picture, excellent composition.
How are the flowers attached to each other? And was the man happy to have his photo taken?
(Sorry for all the questions!)

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Paul
I don't understand how you can post 4 WS's, everytime I try that it won't let me.

another awesome shot, its one of those shots where it captures the viewers attention right away. not only for the subject content, but the colours too. and verticals work best that way too.

even the back walls are the same colour as the flowers...that must be on purpose. cool post
cheers
Craig

Hello Paul.
Impressive this long garland of flowers, which is forming a thread on the floor with several lines of height, while the artist holds a hand a few turns, magnificent portrait of the character and a beautiful color which bring the yellow and orange flowers.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; all its perfectly made factors, in this beautiful image.
Well done. I like it.
You have a good day.
All the best.
Luis.

Hello Paul,
Five very suitable photos to finish (I suppose) your Indian series. Nothing could be more typical than these bright garlands of flowers. The five pictures show us the production and trade of these garlands that are such intimate parts of Hindu society. It's astonishing what could be made of flowers. These well taken photos will forever remind you of that journey.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Paul,
beautiful photo and interesting reportage, well done!

Have a nice day

Hello Paul,
Oh, snake of flowers, very charming (pun intended). I love the colors!

Hello Paul,
I'm behind on my critiques once again...This photo is very eye-catching. The garland looks like a giant, colorful snake. It must be time-consuming to prepare these, and your photo points out a cultural difference: how we use large bouquets in vases for weddings and parties here in the US, but in India they use garlands. :-)
