Mysore - Devaraja Flower Market

I have shown already a few pictures of this large bazaar, more specifically of the food department.
But the flower department is really amazing.
Remarkable that the flowers are mostly sold either as bulk or as garlands.
These garlands are used for weddings, festivals and of course in the Hindu temples.

On the Devaraja Market you can also see how the garlands are made.
Most of the flowers sold are rose, marigold, chrysanthemum and jasmin.
It’s best to visit this flower department in the late afternoon when the fresh flowers have arrived and the bazaar is very lively.

Hallo Paul,

Hello Paul, Not the flower market like we usually see. Here just the marigold flowers without the stems. Probably this market is located near the temple. HAha, they sell them by kilos. In Varanasi, they place them in small bowls with the candles and then they float in the river.
Nice picture. Interesting presentation.
KInd regards MAlgo

Hello Paul,

This is a wonderful photograph, showing the vibrant colours and the business of the market. It appears as if the stall holder is selling the flowers by weight! Your w/s photographs extend our understanding of what happens.
I actually found the selling of just flower heads quite disturbing. It was like decapitating flowers. When you see how the flowers are used, it makes sense but is so different to how we sell flowers, plunging them into water with nutrients to keep them alive for as long as possible!

Have a great Sunday,
Bev :-)

Dag Paul,

Alle drie uw foto's zijn echt kleurrijk.
Tradities dat wij niet kennen, maar zo mooi zijn om naar te kijken.
Mensen genieten er blijkbaar ook van.
Heel mooi foto werk, bedankt.

Ptettige Pinsterdag,

Hello Paul,
I suppose flower markets offer the most colourful photos that can be taken in India, even brighter than fruit or vegetables markets or even any gathering of women. These photos are all bright and interesting, also very well taken considering the crowded circumstances where a knee or an arm here and there can't be avoided. That's part of the Indian experience.
Kind regards,

Ciao Paul, nice market scene, lovely composition with a lot of flowers, fantastic colors, splendid light and excellent clarity, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Bonjour Paul
Trois belles images du marché de fleurs, pleine de couleurs, belles scène de vie
Belle journée

Hi Paul,
Beautiful scene of usual life in this flower market. Great colors and good composition
Best regards

Hello Paul,
It is a colorful people-photo. I have never seen flowers sold like this, they are sold like fruit or vegetables!

Hi Paul,
I have just returned from my trip to Poland. We have celebrated Corpus Christi. In Poland little girls are walking in processions and throwing flowers on the ground in front of the monstrance with Holy Sacrament. I didn't have much chance to photograph it but I wanted to show it to my daughter so I have one pic which I took in a hurry, I will show it here soon.
I have heard that there were flower petals to purchase on the market days before as well... for the girls.
Great reportage here. There is so much color! and such an extraordinary subject. People also captured in great poses.
Excellent work!!
