Mumbai - Revenge in style

Because usually pictures taken from the outside of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel are shown here, I add three more interior photos.
I dedicate my main picture to Craig who was enthusiastic about another interior photo in the previous workshop.

When you haven’t entered the building, it is not so clear that you can look down from the fifth (highest) floor on all other floors, including the first one (not the ground floor).
Also on this picture all floors are visible but without looking carefully, you will see only three floors.

Why the title ‘Revenge in style’ ?
The hotel opened its doors to guests on 16 December 1903 and the construction was commissioned by Jamsetji Tata, an Indian pioneer industrialist.
The story goes dat Mr. Tata had been refused entry to one of the city's grand hotels of the time, the Watson's Hotel, as it was restricted to ‘whites only’. So he decided to build another classy hotel.

This story continues to circulate but other comments indicate that Mr. Tata did not have the time and intentions to engage in revenge.
It would otherwise have been the most stylish revenge ever.

BTW, at least one of the regular TE-members stayed in this hotel. Luis (adramad) spent two nights there.
How about that ? 

I will not show here a picture of the hotel where I was staying. Although I certainly can’t complain.

Hello Paul

The choice of vertical format was almost inevitably dictated by the architecture! Great depth of focus, helped I suspect by a wide-angle lens. Fine details and well-managed light: not straightforward with an indoor shot.

Bonsoir, cher Paul,

another great view of levels which in this case is floors of this hotel. I am impressed with the cleanliness of this place. Nice and well captured.

Hi Paul, another fantatic trio of pics from this amazing hotel, all made in a good quality despite the difficult light. It's very curious to read the legend about Mr. Tata and the contruction of this building, real or not,it's veyr interesting. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Paul,
Even if the story about Jamsetji Tata building a luxury hotel as a revenge is not true, the fact that his heirs now are the owners of the Jaguar and Land Rover companies should be enough revenge in style. I checked the cost of a night here and decided it wouldn't be worth the money. It was wise of you to just spend time here taking photos at no cost. The architecture is quite all right and you handled the light very well. This photo has excellent depth and pleasant colours. The WS2 would have made a fine regular upload, but maybe the sharpness wasn't up to your demands.
Kind regards,

Hello Paul,

A really interesting series of photographs.
I think you were being to hard on yourself about the photograph you wished to post as main but, it matters not for we have seen and enjoyed them all.
I really like that the hotel has the many floors and stairwells associated with mot grand hotels but this is very different in other ways. It has captured the deco and styles of India. You would never mistake this for a European hotel!
Your main shot captures the elevated levels and the skylight of the roof very well but I do like the more intimate photographs of your w/s.

Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Dag Paul,

Hi Paul
haha, yes, thanks for much for the dedication, the TE family is alive and well :)

its not too often we get to see these fine interior photos from India, glad to see them. I"m sure if you took away the location, most people wouldn't think this is India. fine shot with lots of detail and depth, i like this one as well. cheers

Bonjour Paul

Groet Rob

Hello Paul,

interesting image of this building interior, I like the architecture and the point of view creating a good visual effect, it is amazing that we can not see any person, well done,

Best regards,

Ciao Paul

Hello Paul,
Wonderful vertical format that works fabulously to this scene. Elegant decorative elements and lavish appearence, fits well to the title and story written about.
Have a nice Sunday,
