My dear friends,

This is my first post about Little Rann of Kutch in the state of Gujarat. We traveled here in the last February.

The 2,000 square miles that comprise the Little Rann of Kutch in Gujarat is a vast expanse of arid land. Centuries ago, the Little Rann was part of the sea until an earthquake turned the sea bed into a sprawling desert. About 40 feet below the crust, however, is a lake of brine, concentrated enough to produce salt, on which the economy of the area has kept afloat.

The water is brought to the surface by diesel pumps and spread out in salt pans. Each pan produces about 400 tonnes of salt and with an average family unit of five working on two pans, it means a production of 800 tonnes in the normal six-month season.

This is a nice experience and I share to all.

with best wishes to all,

swapankumarroy

Hello Swapan,
A beautiful view over the flat landscape with only some little white hills which stand out very nicely from the darker background. The sidelight was very appealing here too and added a fine and tranquil mood.
Lars

Hello Swapan,
White salt-piles "decorated" the flat-land of the pans, like small charming hills.
A fine capture with clear visible area and contrast of agreeable colors.
Bravo and good afternoon,
Ike

Bonjour, cher Swapan,
Ces monticules de sel après récoltes forment des petites montagnes blanches et l'ensemble forme un joli décor.
Amitiés.
Philippe

Hello Swapan,

Can you see this on Beta?
There, the details are much clearer, particularly the granular details of the salt.
This is quite a sight, the salt hills creating such a visual contrast with the brown earth upon which they are placed.

Thank you for the notes. They explain much about the origins and the importance of this salt industry.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Roy,

We get a very nice view about the small salt mountains, real the white salt..
But a wonderful panorama about the area.
You create a nice depth and perspective picture.
Very well composition and nice presentation. TFS.

Have a nice day,
John

Hi Swapan,

The distance between the two shores is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the salt mounds. The good luminosity is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Pierre

Hello Swapankumarroy,

Hello Swapan,

I know from my photographing salt pans in Thailand that there is a lot of mud and salt that sticks to your shoes after you are finished, so kudos to you for getting this shot. Nice sharpness with good repetition of the salt piles. Tfs!

Bonjour Swapan,

Il y aura certainement du sel sur la table ce soir. J'aime ces tas blancs qui contrastent avec tout ce qu'il y a autour.

Amicalement

Serge

Hello dear Swapan,

Interesting view of these hills of salt. In Poland, we have salt mines. Beautiful composition.

A fascinating scene.
I like the 'letterbox' presentation.
Regards Jean.

Hello Swapankumarroy,
This is a curious subject demonstrated by a top-notch photo. I am intrigued by the account of a whole sea disappearing because of an earthquake.

MT

Hello Swapan Most interesting is the symmetrical display of salt mounts raising at backdrop as a visual response to the nearests for an intense impression of depth. Cheers
