Today picture from Yerevan.
Last year I was not able to show off this little church. It's better now.
I am also happy with the result of today's football match in Yerevan.
View of Anna Church (left) and Katoghike Church (right)

According to the scripts carved on one of the walls of Katoghike Church, the surviving structure dates back to 1264.

After the 1679 Yerevan earthquake, a large basilica named after the Holy Mother of God was built between 1693 and 1695, in the ancient Shahar district of Yerevan, occupying the western edge of the Katoghike Church. The new church was built of typical Armenian tuff stones and did not have dome. It belonged to the three-nave basilica type of the Armenian church architecture. The church With its prayer hall measuring 14.0 x 19.3 meters, and an outside perimeter of 16.4 x 28.4 meters, was considered one of the most capacious churches of old Yerevan. The church had entrances on the southern and western sides. In 1936, the basilica of the Holy Mother of God was demolished under the Soviet rule to make way for residential buildings and a linguistic institute at the Sayat-Nova Avenue. During the demolition, the 13th-century church of Katoghike was discovered encased within the structure of the large basilica. After protests from archaeologists, the church was preserved. Many old khachkars (cross-stones) were found in the walls of the demolished church dating back to the 15th and 17th centuries./wik

Hello Piotr,
Great photo of this church. The sunlight was amazing, especially in combination with the warm colours of the two church buildings. The smaller one looks so charming next to its big brother.

Good evening.
Nice view, interesting and good text ...
Beautifully displayed place and architecture, good contrast and sharpness, nice colors, nice moment.
Beautiful churches and details on the facades, a beautiful moment with the clouds.
I wish you a quiet night, all the best.

Hello Piotr, a lovely shot of the two churches side by side.
The sunlight has brought out the beautiful colours of the stonework, and all the features of the
distinctive architecture. I like the inclusion of the man walking by.
Regards Jean.

Hello Piotr
Congratulations with the 1-6 victory of the Polish football-team. I suppose you will excuse Armenia by posting this splendid picture of this charming church in Yerevan in a beautiful warm sunlight.
Excellent work. Groet Rob

Hi Piotr

Oi, Piotr!

A arquitetura dessas igrejas são bem interessantes, achei muito bonita. As cores delas também são bonitas. Luz e enquadramento excelentes.
Bela foto!

Hi Piotr,
Nice architecture, pleasant color with this warm light, well captured, tfs.

Hi Piotr,

The trees are framing well the church. The point of view is showing the details of the St.Anna and Katoghike churches. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Pierre

Good morning Piotr,
The fine light brought out best of colors of the church complex.
Placed nicely within the frame and against the trees and sky in contrast.
Best regards,
Ike

cześć Piotrze,

Ładnie pokazane te dwa kościoły, zwłaszcza ten maleńki jest uroczy. Ładna kompozycja i kolory.
Ja byłam 6 dni w Albanii, a potem przyjechałam na tydzień na Korfu, więc udało mi sie duzo zobaczyć. Miałam wspaniała pogodę. Dziś przedostatni dzień i niestety poogoda sie zepsuła.

Pozdrawiam

MAłgorzata

Hello Piotr,
Unless my memory totally fails me these beautiful churches were surrounded by scaffolding in 2012. It was possible to go inside but impossible to taken any photos like this. I envy you this photo from such a good angle and with such fine light. They are two remarkable buildings.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Piotr,
Charming capture of these twin churches. Very nicely illuminated with superb colours and clarity. Thanks also for the informative note.

Hello Piotr,

How strange, to have two churches side-by-side but, very photogenic!
You have captured them at a moment when the sun is highlighting the colours of the stones and showing the contrasts in their hues.
I think I would follow the well placed figure and explore the smaller church, then ... I'd have to compare the second!
Lovely sharp details to these unusual designs.

Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hi Piotr
Amazing how they accommodate one another sitting side by side but a real treat to the eyes. The architecture and earthy colours really spring within the setting. A nice record image made better by the history of the content, Congrats.
Best wishes

Hi Piotr

You can still see churches like this in eastern Turkey around Lake Van and Kars as well as the abandoned city of Ani on the Turk Armenian border. Good sharpness and framing. Tfs!
