Here's a golden hit from one of our best trips ever!

---

Bamako is the capital of Mali. It is located on the river Niger in the south of the country. The name is derived from the Bambara word meaning "crocodile tail".

In Bamako we met up with a local musician who took us around a couple of days. This picture was shot in his neighborhood. The kids in the picture are some kind of family of him (it was never really sure exactly what the relationship was).

---

This picture celebrates the diversity and richness of Malinese music. In format and frame I tried to evoke an old style vinyl single.

Bonjour Benny,

Une très belle pièce tirée de tes archives. La guitare est presque aussi grosse que le jeune homme au sourire le plus large possible. Il semble savoir en jouer.

Amicalement

Serge

Hello Benny,
Also for me a kind of nostalgic picture from a country so amazingly full of fantastic music, also one of the nicest countries in Africa, maybe anywhere.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Benny,

You have presented cheerful mood of the musicians, nicely captured with very natural color and sharpness, I think they were enjoying their music systems, well presentation.

my warm regards,

swapankumarroy

Ciao Benny, my today neighbour, great portrait of young artisti in action, excellent exposure, great clarity, fine details, splendid light and wonderful colors, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hallo Benny,
2002 was een betere tijd om Mali te bezoeken dan tegenwoordig.
Beide kinderen beleven er duidelijk heel veel plezier aan. Ik veronderstel dat het heel vrolijke muziek was.
Je presenteert deze foto met een mooi kader.
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello Benny Except for the missing writings, your poster looks like a vintage cardboard sleeve for a vinyl 33rpm record! It's a new trend nowadays to buy vinyls and very expensive turntables connected to tubes amplis and costly speakers! Nice framing. Cheers

Dag Benny,

Ik ben totaal geen muziekkant maar ik denk dat dit muziek instrument groot lijkt voor de jongen.
Maar misschien is het juist, dat hij goed kon spelen.
Het zeker een goede foto met de glimlach van beiden
Goed foto werk, bedankt.

Prettige avond,
John.

Hi Benny,
This one is a real gem! Wide smile of the kids is so charming. And a bit too big guitar for this chap gives fun twist. And diagonal setting of the guitar makes strong composition. Your flash worked perfectly without causing overexposure on this contrasty view.

Hi benny

The new rockers generation!
It looks as a sixties picture, the big guitar in diagonal gives some more power to the smile of the young boy, correctly light by your flash gun.
The rounded shape of the frame remembers me the Kodakrome slide's one
Let's twist again!

Dear Benny,

So you found your oldies? Nice! I really like the joy of life on the face of the kid.
